Lets see, being able to walk to a Mall (DtD) or being able to walk to World Showcase and Fish and Chips.
Yes clearly staying around the corner from a mall is clearly better than EPCOT! I mean where else in the world can you live almost on top of a mall? Oh well okay SSR or the Natick Mall (which is infact building Condos on top of and next to the mall.)
Boardwalk has my vote.

BWI for me - better overall amenties, better location, self contained resort, and better pool area.

BoardWalk by leaps and bounds... walking distance to EPCOT, walking (or boating) distance to Studios... monorail is waiting for you on the other side of EPCOT to go to MK, plus ESPN, Flying Fish, that microbrew, Beaches'n'Cream, the clambakes at BC, Atlantic Dance, Spoodles, Jellyrolls...
And the victorian theming is freaking awesome at BWI... SS is nice and all, but yeah, BoardWalk by a mile

The BoardWalk is the better. With all the dinning and drinking in walking distance, you can't beat it! I'd rather be that close to EPCOT.

I've stayed at Saratoga, but not Boardwalk so I can't give a complete objective opinion but I will give an opinion anyway
Saratoga was nice, and its is walking distance to DTD. Saratoga was quiet and very laid back. I did find the food court had limited options, but maybe that is the same for all DVC properties.
As for Boardwalk, it is walking distance to Epcot which is a major plus, but I would say Boardwalk will not be as quiet as Saratoga. I've been over to boardwalk at night it can be crazy
.
Hope that helps....

I guess it depends a bit on what you're looking for. If you don't mind being further out of the way in exchange for more peace and quiet then SSR might be the thing for you (though Pleasure Island is pretty noisy some/most nights, I think).
I'd have to pick Boardwalk for myself though. As many have said, the location can't be beat.

Haven't stayed at either, but resort hopped and investigated the grounds and walk ways to the parks. If I had to pick which one to stay at I would pick Board Walk. Aside from the great walkways to the parks just the theming was awesome. And all the extras with in walking distance, the beaches, the nightclub etc..
