If I have to wait in line it's all about the theme for me - some of my favorite queues are Expedition Everst, Kali River Rapids, Tower of Terror, Great Movie Ride, Star Tours, and Mission: Space.

Theming, aircon, music, lean rails, preshow, and of course fewer people. :)

Fast Passes

Themeing is key for me. Good air circulation is also key.

Not having a wining, hot, nagging kid tugging on you as the line staggers!

Oh yes, I agree with all the above, and for sure the beer carts. It takes quick action to pull down the suds in Cal land then run back to Disneyland and still be numbed to the unpleasntries of crowds.

No way at WDW, it's too far from the Epcot long beers to the the other parks. :mickey:

Definitely theming air conditioning and lean rails. I also think spacing out the pre-show earlier in the queue like ToT does where after the pre-show you still have a decent chunk of your actual wait but you kind of get tricked into thinking you're already really enjoying the ride. Although, the ToT theme and music is so good I feel like I'm on the ride as soon as I hit the morphing Hollywood Tower Hotel sign :-p

I think switchbacks make the lines seem longer in reality...it always feels like you're making such little progress :(

For me, it's all about the music and the theming. If a queue has nice theming and something interesting to look at or do around the next turn, the experience is heightened ten-fold. It also cuts back on the waiting time and really makes the time fly.

I agree with the notion that the switchbacks make the lines seem longer. You just continue to weave back and forth over the same boring area and nothing appears different. Although, I do have a habit of counting how many times I pass the same person in the next row over just to humor me. I guess that's a method of passing the time as well.

Music and entertainment are key in making a queue tolerable. MuppetVision 3D probably has the most entertaining queue; I never get sick of those jokes! But if you don't have a fun preshow like MuppetVision, it helps to have visual detail to keep the mind occupied, and pleasing music to keep everyone calm and happy. I don't feel a big need to see the ride ahead of me; if a queue is well done, the journey can be just as rewarding as the destination.

I think the best queue is made with theming, and location. The queue should be well themed so the people in line are distracted if you will, to take there minds off the wait time ahead of them. A good queue to look at the POC at WDW. When you enter the indoor area of the queue you cant even see the loading area. With a well themed queue the wait time seems to diminish. Location has to do with is it, inside "air conditioning, or outside "heat". I think rides with airconditioned queues seem to go faster because I am more comfortable, Not worrying about the heat. Also having a good conversation can help on top of the everything else. One of the all time best queues is Indiana Jones Temple of the Forbidden Eye at Disneyland in California.
