We had reservations at the AS Movies Resort 11 years ago. We were going for my parents' 30th anniversary. When we got there my mom said that she would like to stay somewhere a little nicer for their anniversary so we upgraded to Port Orleans FQ. We loved it and since then have stayed at all of the moderate resorts except PO Riverside and have also stayed at GF (did not find it to be very "kid friendly") and Wilderness Lodge (my husband's favorite). This year we are trying the Fort Wilderness cabins. I would not mind giving the Value Resorts another try at some point, especially with the money that we could save!

I have stayed at the value resorts and they are nice. The only two things are that they are spread out. If you get unlucky and get put in one of the back buildings, it can be a hike to the shuttle stop. Then there is also the transportation. If you are going to AK, not so bad. Any other of the fparks and your wait seems to be longer than at the moderates, especially those closer to the other parks.

Very, very true, ralberts.

Although, I have to say that the last time we were at the Wilderness Lodge too, the wait seemed like FOREVER for the bus system.

We stayed at the Port Orleans French Quarter last year for our honeymoon. It was a great resort and the transporation to Downtown was awesome and took no time. However, the transporation to the other parks was so bad that we took our car to the parks on most days. The days we did not the crowds in the bus were awful I would get on and  I didn't realize (stupidly I should have) that the bus takes guests of both resorts to and from! When you are going it's nice because FQ loads first, but coming back...omg. Lets just say I love the free parking!

Howdy Joe90,

What a great idea!! Take a tour of the resorts. That is how we started staying the Wilderness Lodge. We were at All Star Sports and went on a field trip to the Wilderness Lodge. We loved it so much that we transferred to the Wilderness Lodge. But, next trip we will take a resort field trip. :D

I stayed one night at ASR in 96 when we were there for the marathon and couldn't get CBR for that night. The room was smaller and not as dressed up as CBR. We stayed off property the one and only time at Holiday Inn and very disappointed. We bought DVC in 98(and haved continued to addon since) and have stayed at BWV all the time. Stayed at VWL one night just to see what it was like. BWV are still our fav as we can walk to 1/2 of the parks and not have to wait around for the busses:)

I want to put in my on two scents. The Unofficial Guide to WDW tested out various noise levels and found that the value resort doors were better at keeping out noise due to extensive weather stripping. Also, the pricier hotel rooms have regulated temperatures, so the doors of the deluxe rooms aren't exactly built to keep that out.

Value vs. Moderate

Post by jd3921fl » Aug Thu 09, 2007 9:08 am

I've stayed at all the Value except Pop and all the Moderates. No doubt the Moderates are nicer.(Riverside is my fav)you got some good info already on the pro's and con's. No wthat some fo the value rooms have been updated that's an extra plus. If you are going to be spending a lot of time at the parks and water parks go value. If you might like to come back to the room and hang by the pool and stroll around and enjoy your "resort" go moderate.

I used to be a deluxe WDW hotel snob, having stayed at Poly twice as a kid, GF once and WL once. (I also have stayed at Coronado Springs once).

Although I LOVE LOVE LOVE the WL, when we went to Pop Century last year, I was pleasantly surprised by the atmosphere. As others have said, I'm only there for the bed, and sometimes the pool. The Pop foodcourt was great for us - we'd get our breakfast there, then eat the rest of our meals at the parks.

So, until I win the lottery and can afford the WL again, it'll be Pop Century for me! I can't see spending the extra $$ for the Mods.

I would debate that.

The values are OK, and are much better than staying offsite. But, the Moderates are MUCH quieter, and less crowded.

We've enjoyed each of our stays at All-Star Sports, Movies, and POP. But, our stays at Caribbean Beach and Coronado Springs were much better, and MUCH quieter.
