This post covers the refurb.

actually, I do believe the name "ExxonMobil" is still listed on the signage outside the pavillion. I pretty sure I saw it back in December. And it's shown on the sign during the picture slide-show thing on the official page. I think that if they pulled out as the sponsor back in the 1990s, they'd have removed that picture from the lineup

Ah, okay. Maybe they returned or something because I'd have sworn that Exxon had pulled out when the refurb that brought in Ellen happened. But I could be totally wrong too.

I read an article about the UoE sponsor a while ago, I can't seem to find the link though. ExxonMobile pulled out originally for less than a year, that's when the original "pop-out-of-the-water" sign was replaced with the blue sphere design. From what I've read, they began re-sponsoring it again even before Disney could get rid of all their signage (except the front sign of course). The sign was then redesigned with their name, but the blue sphere theme still remains. (I think the sphere is on a huge silver rod now as opposed to just sitting on the wall)

Tips not included in 2008 Disney Dining Plan. Folks booking on the 2008 Dining Plan (for trips starting January 1) may find a nasty surprise: some reports claim that no longer will tips be included in the meal. That will certainly result in a raw deal for some servers, as guests who don't know (or who will pretend to not know) will simply stiff the staff. I hope this doesn't lead to uncomfortable encounters at the front lines! For those guests who do know, they will realize the dining plan is slightly less wonderful a bargain now. If this is true, it means that in typical Disney fashion, a successful program is being "maximized" to squeeze every last cent of profit from it, even though things were firing on all cylinders before. It seems the maxim at Disney is "if it ain't broke, squeeze profit from it until it does break."
This will make it not worth while for many. Basically increasing the cost 15-20% for visitors and increased $$ for Mickey with raising the cost of the plan  Plus, how do you calculate the tip. Add all of the menu items costs together and tip from there

Jungle Cruise enhancements. An upcoming movie based on the Jungle Cruise may be behind a rumored close in 2008 to add enhancements, though other rumors call for the addition of Timon and Pumbaa to the ride.
Why not just bulldoze this whole area and start over with something new? Sorry, but the JC wasn't contemporary 30 years ago when I made my first trip to the MK, and it certainly hasn't gotten any better. I know that I'll get flamed for saying this, but the Jungle Cruise and Tom Sawyer's Island are the two biggest wastes of space in all of Disney.

oh my.... where to start...hhaaa

Don't think JC was ever meant to be contemporary. Its not a cutting edge wonder, but I don't think it was ever meant to. The skippers really make that ride. 90% of their spiel is making fun of the ride. Its like classic Disney stuff, um its like not really a Disney park without it! Personally I can imagine JC not being there.

Think Tom Sawyer Island is the same way. Great for kids to run around and just be kids. Now with TSI in Disneyland getting an new pirate theme it will be current and draw some nice crowds. Guess we will want and see what they do with their TSI.

Oh, I hope they never do that. No, I'm not going to flame you... everyone's entitled to their opinions. But JC is hilarious if you get a good skipper and a bore if you don't. You just need to keep trying.

As for TSI, I haven't been to it much but that's mainly becuase my kids are just getting of an age where I'll let them go off on their own. I'm thinking it'd be a great place to go for a semi-private stroll with my hubby through the parklike atmosphere.

Of course, if they do a pirates thing with it, that could be fun too. Hope they leave some of it "natural" and "wild" so we could still take a stroll one day.

My guess is when you get up from TS you'll get a receipt that says "Suggest Tip: " Or something like that.

Lots of places do that now. Pre-calcuate the correct tip and print it on your receipt for you, and with parties >6 or 8 they often help you by adding it in to the total for you.

I don't think it's a "help" when they add it to the total for me. I consider that rude. I understand why they do it but I still consider it rude.

What's even worse is when I give them the money for the bill and they ask me if I want change. Of course I want my change. It's mine until such time as I decide to give it to someone else. If the waiter asks if I want my change that automatically lowers whatever tip they might have gotten.

If someone added a 'suggested tip' on my bill (if I didn't have a large party), I'd be annoyed. That'd almost be a good way to guarantee I leave something other than that amount. I might be willing to be lenient on a place like WDW (or any big tourist attraction place) for doing it though, since they have people from all over the world and tipping is not a universally standardized thing. It's a tricky line between making sure the wait staff get what they need for their income (assuming they make min. wage or lower) and insulting the guests, I think.

I can understand the 'do you need change?' a little better. Lots of wait staff don't count the money in the bill holder right when they pick it up, and some people do include the tip in the whole shebang when they pay cash. So I think it's faster for them to ask 'do you need change?', meaning 'should I go count this and ring it in right away and come back so you can leave, or can I take those people over there their sodas first because you're done and are leaving now?'.

There are definitely servers who ask it rudely though, and I'm sure they don't all deserve the benefit of the doubt I'm giving there. The few times I've had to wave people down to get them to bring me my change after they've assumed I didn't want it have definitely resulted in no tip for them. ;)

I hadn't thought about that. Now that you mention it, I can understand that since they do have people from all over the world.

OMG!!! I've never had to do that. I would be absolutely furious if that were to happen. They'd get a tip... the single penny under an overturned cup! Nah, I wouldn't be that bad, although I'd certainly think about it. But I would most definitely be talking to their manager. Wow! I guess I feel much better about the ones that just ask if I need change. :-)
