This one point bothered me everytime I when to work last semester and it still bothers me to this day! It blows my mind how people have become SO selfish that they ruin the magic for other guests and CMs. There were several times that I felt like the magic was sucked out of me by the time my shift ended. But I kept renewing myself everyday so that others would have a great experience.FlatlandMounty wrote:Guests have become more demanding, ignorant, and impatient. I have actually heard people ask, "Why are the lines so long?" on New Year's Eve. Some people have actually asked "Why do you let so many people in here?" How would they like it if they cut off attendance 3 seconds before they entered. They let in as many people as they believe is safe to maintain.
People abuse the Guest Assistance program to skip lines, making waits longer for others and sometimes impacting guests who actually need the assistance. Selling their passes on eBay to make a buck and cheat the system.
Disney lost its MAGIC???

Now that you mention it, I haven't seen a sweeper in my last few visits. Disney must have tightened that budget as well. All to make stockholders happy for that year.FlatlandMounty wrote:10 years ago it was a big laugh, but now there's crickets. Have people heard it too much? I think the real reason is you never see custodians anymore.

In my opinion Disney is much MORE magical than my first trip.
My first trip to Disney was Sept 2004. Frankly speaking, it pretty much sucked and two of the five of us swore that they'd never go back.
See we went during Hurricane Jeanne and the battered residents of Fl had enough of hurricanes. Also, as prepared as Disney is for these things, we're a family that almost slipped through the cracks. When we checked in our room wasn't ready. An hour after check in time (three hours after arrival) our room still had issues. With the hurricane bearing down we had no room and a 20 month old outside. No CM seemed to care.
The rest of our week followed suit.
My point is that we gave Disney 'another chance' realizing that it probably wasn't their fault. We went in April 2007 and it was FANTASTIC and AMAZING!!!
We have every belief that our upcoming two trips will also be amazing.

I'm a 57 year old grandpa and have been going to Disney World every other year or so since 1985 when I first took my two daughters there. I saw the magic myself that year, not only through my daughters eyes, but my own, too. I have seen some things change, some for the better and some for the worse. But, the magic is still there. I let the little glitches just go by - I'm there to be happy. Last year we were able to take our two daughters, their husbands, and two granddaughters. It was magic all over again as we saw the little ones have lunch with the princesses, see Alice, Belle, and Kim Possible, and ride all the rides that we never take when it's just grandma and me. When I can be 5 years old again for a whole week - that's magic!

You know what's great about this topic? The fact that after all the complaints and comparisons, everyone comes back to this topic to talk about the wonders and magic Disney still presents. It's nice to hear the good things once in a while.

I think the main difference has to be compared with today's culture. You would have never seen any of the 'in-jokes' from films like Nemo, Incredibles, and Monsters Inc in older Disney films like Snow White and Cinderella. Obviously this attitude has made it's way into the parks and had an influence on the 'innocence' of the parks.
Having said that, any of the Disney parks are the most special places on Earth, and a whole dream away from everyday reality.

I first went when I was 12, My next time was when I was 27, and let me tell you, none of the magic was lost! I walked through the gate at the Magic Kingdom and felt a huge smile break across my face. I looked at my GF (now wife) and said, "This is freaking AWESOME!" As some people have been saying I think they are right in that the magic is inside of us. We take what we want from the experience and that is how we perceive the trip. For me the magic was so great that my wife and I chose to go back for our honeymoon! And again, it was one of the best times I have ever had in my life. I can't wait til' I go again (hopefully next year.).

$4000 and Eight hours on a plane, for two weeks.
Has the Magic gone?
If it had I wouln’t be coming.
I have never come across a nasty CM. Tired, stressed, and sometimes with a little magic worn off the corners, but never completely gone.
The magic exists because all of us that have it help make it so. Guests and CM alike.
The parks just give us a great place to express it a bit.
As does this web site.

I hope not for me as I have accumulated almost 200 DVC points(1980 to be exaact). With this kind of investment
I have seen more and more less "Happy" CM's the last few years and more of a lack to want to fix things. But still better than most places.

I think FlatlandMounty summed it up very well. Between Disney management cutting corners, trying to get more and more profit while providing less and less service, and the rise in ignorance/rudeness on the part of some guests, the magic has eroded. We have been visiting WDW every 2-3 years for the past 20+ years, and those early visits were way more magical than our most recent trip. It's to the point where my spouse doesn't want to go any more, and feels we can get better value for our vacation dollar by going elsewhere. He has a point, but I still long to go back. There's less magic, but still enough left to make it worthwhile for me.
