i feel so ghetto now. I don't know if I'll ever be able to afford to stay at any where other than the Values or the Pop Century.

I'm not saying I wouldn't stay at a value resort, I just haven't.

When I go to Disneyland, it is hard to pay for the Disney Hotels when I can stay across the street for half the price. Look at it this way, if you pay half as much for a vacation and are only using the hotel as somewhere to crash, you can get 2 Disney vacations for the price of one!

Don't feel that way!! The only reason we get to stay where we stay is because my DW can get really good prices!

Yeah, just don't lie around on the lobby floors when you go, and it's no problemo, Blackie.

If I had my choice I would always stay at the Wilderness Lodge. But, we started out on 192. When All-Star Sports opened we moved on up! WOW! That was so great. Staying on Disney property we felt like royalty. It was nice.

The difference in the value and moderate hotels was the food court. I liked the food court much better at Dixie Landings. I thought the atomsphere was much nicer at Dixie Landings, too.

But, remember if you are like us, you use the hotel was sleeping only. Once we left for the parks we were gone all day. When we came back to the room we collapsed.

Just be sure to stay on Disney property!

Good point! And don't worry... if I want to lay around on the floors it's always been in my room! Not.. that I lay around on the floors... that would be... crazy...

Hahaha. Just make sure the maid got it really clean if you do!

For instance... on the very same trip we had the incident at All Star Resorts with the people lying around the lobby, we couldn't get in the night we wanted to because All Star was booked solid. So, we had splurged and spent one night at Beach Club ($300/night, ack!) and then would transfer to All Star after that. We had this mini-suite room because that was all they had available.

What did we find?

COBWEBS all over the place in the room! Then, and I forget how I found it, but there was a baby's sock from the last family's visit on the floor beside the bed. Who cleaned the room and didn't spot any of these not-so-invisible problems? Crazy.

This isn't just a value resort problem. I've read some horror stories that include the Grand Floridan and other Deluxe / DVC resorts as well. Too bad because its just gross to think about.

quick update: i started this thread way back when and got back from the world about 3 weeks ago.

I stayed in the sports. While it wasn't as nice as the mods (i love fq, and hope to eventually stay in deluxes again). It was a lovely hotel. I do miss elaborate themes, and the theming wasn't as good as other hotels, but it was better than a hilton or marriott which is essentially themeless. And I agree in WDW is much better than out of WDW. The magic does add alot.

We loved the all star movies resort and when we go back either this Oct or next we are staying at Pop Century. Now I don't know how many are in your party, but we only have three and the value resorts are great, less expensive and we love the themes of these parts. It is just magic walking through the resort with all the icons it is really something. We probably will never stay anywere but a value resort, I would much rather spend my money at the parks.

Casrin,

The cobweb was in the first Beach Club room. When I complained about it we were up-graded to the mini-suite. We did pay $300.00 for a regular room, though. I don't know what the suite would have cost.

But, we found the Wilderness Lodge! It was all worth it in the long run.

My family and I have stayed at CBR and AKL as well as Pop Century. While we loved the theming of AKL, we really weren't there long enough to enjoy it. We spend most of our time at the parks so where we stay is really not a big deal to us. The kids (14 and 7) LOVED Pop and so did we. (So much that we've stayed there twice since). The rooms are big enough for us and we really enjoyed the theme. We'd rather spend the money saved on souveniers.

I have always stayed at the value resorts through choice. We did take a day out and used the resort transport to tour around all the other resorts just to see which one we liked the best for future trips. We found Port Orleans was very quiet and relaxing. An old folks home when compared to the random chaos of the All Star resorts. So until I'm old(er) it's random chaos for me.

The All Star resorts are full of Dancers / Cheerleaders at the end of Jan beginning of Feb as they have the National High School Championships at MGM and World of Sports at this time. Chaos, Chaos, Chaos.
