Parents have to be careful not to be so enthralled with Disney World that they forget about their children. Communication between adults is SO important. Thank God for walkie-talkies and cell phones.

No matter how safe they might have felt their child was, there was no amount of Disney Magic that could keep the sun away from almost killing her. Crime in the Magic Kingdom might only affect a few people , but heat exhaustion is universal. I wonder how many cars this child has been left in while her parents "ran in really quick to pick something up from the store."

I dunno...casrin wrote:You have to wonder though about the "feeling" people have about being safe at Disney. I mean, why would you think that anything bad would happen at the "happiest place on Earth" if you're getting caught up in the moment?
Seriously, it's no excuse for bad parenting, but I think I could see how someone would just expect their daughter would be safe... just because they are at WDW.
Stranger things have happened right?
91 degrees is 91 degrees inside or outside Disney. Safety from others aside, the elements were not safe for the child. And one really wonders about the bump on her head as well.

Stories like this make me furious and sad. Furious at apparent careless parenting and sad for those who want a child and struggle. Sometimes life seems so unfair!!
I have a hard time believing the parents story that Dad thought Mom had her and the mom thought that she was in a second, covered, stroller. Whichever parent pushed the stroller with the daughter had to have known that she was in there just from the weight of the stroller. As a parent I have pushed empty and full strollers. Even an infant in the stroller is evident, just from their weight.
This sounds like neglect to me, and that's really sad.

I heard this story the other day and I could not believe what I was hearing. I have an 8 year old daughter and the first time we went to disney was in Aug of 05 and it was hot, like 95 degrees with 100% humidity. I couldn't imagine doing that to the most precious thing I have in this world. Besides, they could have taken this child in with them it is air conditioned in there and this ride is not harsh for a child at all.
I agree the child should not be placed back with the parents, but that is just an angry parent speeking out.
I think that some parents...not all...should have to be licienced to be parents.

It's just that the Pirates took precedence over their child, that's all... But yeah, we wondered the same thing; why didn't they just take the kid on the ride?I couldn't imagine doing that to the most precious thing I have in this world.

We saw another example of 'great parenting' whilst on the Aerosmith ride at WDW. A father tried to take his son on it and he was way below the hight restriction. He managed to get him in the ride car without being noticed by staff. The train was just leaving the platform when one of the staff noticed the small boy onboard and shouted to get the train stopped. The boy was removed. Can you believe that a parent would deliberatly endanger their child?

At Soarin' a woman was wearing a non-seethrough poncho. Literally seconds before launch, the cast members heard a baby crying and searched for the sound. The woman had been hiding her infant under her poncho the whole time.
as for..."why didn't they just take the kid on the ride?"
the most common reason is "But my child is sleeping" Anytime cast members ask parents to park their strollers, or want to check heights, they always say their kid is sleeping. "Oh, he's sleeping? That changes everything ma'am. Go ahead and bring in your stroller while everyone else parks it outside, and bring your kind into the ride he can't ride where you will try to trick people about his height."
Your kid's sleeping? If a parent says this, the proper response should be. "NOT ANYMORE!" shouted at the top of your lungs while clapping. I think this would solve many bad parenting issues.

Ha ha. I remember my mom telling me that when I was a baby, she would bring me on rides (such as Haunted Mansion) while I was sleeping.FlatlandMounty wrote: Your kid's sleeping?
