Has anyone been to Walt Disney World during Mardi Gras. We had plans to go this week, but Katrina changed things.

I thnk if anything is going on for Mardi Gras its at Pleasure Island. But comparing Mardi Gras at WDW to New Orleans is like comparing a Ford Taurus to a Corvette

I heard there is a parade at Downtown. Probably Pleasure Island, like you said. I also heard there are no crowds. I can not get confrimation on what goes on during Mardi Gras. I guess I'll call Disney.

We are finaly getting to go to Walt Disney World during Mardi Gras this year. We will be there February 17th thru February 24th. My wife and daughter are out of school for a whole week this year because of Mardi Gras. We are 28 days, 11 hours, 46 minutes, and 15 seconds from arriving at Saratoga Springs Resort & Spa. We have to add 12 hours for travel time. A little less because of the new road.

ericpabear, where do you live that your schools get a whole week off for Mardi Gras? I'm jealous! Do tell us about the celebration at Disney World though. Sounds very exciting to me.

I am a native of New Orleans. I moved only 30 miles north across Lake Pontchartrain in a town called Slidell. In the past years we only would get three days off of school. Lundy Gras, Mardi Gras ( aka Fat Tuesday) and Ash Wensday. Business downtown New Orleans have to arrange hours according to parade times. Every where else only gives Fat Tuesday off. I am requesting a week of vacation so we can get out of town.

This year is our 5th trip in 5 years during Mardi Gras. We really enjoy it. I have heard that this year MG and President's Week fall in the same week. Several websites have said that it will be one of the busiest times. Hopefully the end of the week will slow down.
See ya there! I am riding in a New Orleans parade on Saturday then we leave early Monday morning. I am soooooo ready to get there.
Have a magical day!

I just found out what you posted. Presidents week is pretty crowded. However, I was told that after the three day weekend, the crowd it slacks off. But alot stay for the week, extending their holidy. I am realy hopeing it's not as crowded as Chirtmass or in the summer time."Laizzes le bon temp roulee."

I live in Houma. Unfortunately we don't get the whole week off of school so I just have to get a sub. Sometimes family life comes before work!
I have checked the weather for the week but it keeps changing. Keep your fingers crossed for 70's/50's with lots of sun! Hubby, son and I will be at AKL. Plus, since MG '08 is earlier in Feb next year, I've got my Annual Pass.
See ya there! Counting the hours now!! 192 hours til we get into the parks!!
Have a magical day!

We are Vacation Club Memebers and will be staying at the Saratoga this time. Haven't gotten our annual pass yet. Trying to time it so the ticket runs out next Mardi Gras. It should still have a week or two left on it. We are 5days 8hours 23 minutes 10 seconds away from "Home".

Just got back. It was crowed Sunday, Monday and Tuesday. The crowd thined out towards the weekend, but still had a lot of people.(Just like I was told) Can't wait to go back next year for Mardi Gras. It won't be on President's Day next year. IT WAS COLD !!! Sun, Mon, Tue, lows in 30's and 40's at night and early in the morning. In the 50's for the high. The rest of the week had a warm up to the 80's.

OH NO, NOT AGAIN !!!! I was just told almost all rooms are booked for February. This teacher decided to go to WDW during Mardi Gras this year also. She had trouble finding a room @ WDW. I couldn't believe it, so I called DVC. The cast member told me, she was told, it was because of the race going on at Datona. There are no rooms available for 150 miles, so guys drop off their wives and kids at WDW, and go to the race. Also she said, President's day and spring break for the notherners....I replied, "But that is later in the month, we are going the first week of February "!!!!! Her only reply was this is what she was told.

(DARN IT!)
