DVC members can use points at Disneyland resorts and ALL Disney hotels and the cruise line. I'm a member and LOVE IT!!! I've taken 3 cruises with my points and have another booked later this year.

You can also use your points at resorts all over the world! My parents greatly enjoy Disneys Hilton Head resort.

I had a friend who spent at night at the Grosvenor Resort and did not have a great experience either. It is not a Disney resort--just another hotel in the DTD area like the Hilton or Double Tree. Resort fees are nothing new. I think I remembered seeing them when I was pricing Disney resorts too.

I've been trying to convince my parents to join the DVC! I think they just may do it when they retire...which won't be for awhile yet, but I'm still looking forward to it!

I argued my way out of a resort fee at DL, but at WDW I almost don't mind paying it. I am not sure why my brain makes a distinction.

IIRC, Some large chain got sued for such fees and there was some sort of class-action settlement over it. Basicly the claim was what is mentioned in this thread... that it pops up and never explained what it was for. It was viewed as a scam or at least a hidden fee.

I hate any hotel that charges more for some fee and the like - just add it in the rate. But then again, I guess marketing has something to do with that too... :(

Wow, I have not heard a single good think about the Grosvenor. It's probably the most complained about hotel I have ever heard about regarding Disney. I know I will never stay there! Word of mouth can make or break a business and I believe the word is "bad" regarding this place.
