My hotel room door must open to the outdoors!

Post by delray » Aug Wed 09, 2006 8:27 pm

Hello!
Over the years we've been to Disney World many times and we usually stay at a moderate or a value resort. As you know the room doors to these resorts open to the outdoors. Once we stayed at The Dolphin and once at the Paradise Pier at Disneyland. My DD is excited about staying at the Wilderness Lodge and was shocked when I told her that I don't really feel like I'm at Disney unless the door opens to the outdoors. I just didn't feel the Disney magic at the Dolphin or at Paradise Pier. Am I crazy or does anyone else feel this way? The next trip it's either going to be the WL or the CBR. Please help me!

Regards,
Delray

I've never stayed at the Paradise Pier, but I've stayed in every single Disney Deluxe Resort with the exception of BWI and I can honestly tell you that the WL is one of the best. The Dolphin (and Swan) aren't "technically" Disney resorts and fail in the area of theme. I think you'll love WL and totally feel you're at Disney.

OMG! I love the Wilderness Lodge! SOOOOOOOO Beautiful! So Much fun! (and I think every hotel room has a sliding door to the outside!) I loved it! AND your're closer to the Magic Kingdom! There's also a TON of hidden mickeys there too! (as well as the electrical water pagent) If you get up early, you can see them feeding the ducks (which is why they're so fat!)

You'll love it !

The Swan/Dolphin is VERY themed in my opinion. It is one of my absolute favorite resorts at Disney. The area between the two hotels where the boat dock is at is completely stunning. Huge pool selection and fun places to eat....including sushi and karaoke at night!

Just because it doesnt technically say "Disney" on it doesn't mean it should be overlooked by any means...

last time we stayed there for a couple days we had TWO doors/balcony in our room that opened to the outside world!

Don't get me wrong - the Swan and Dolphin are nice hotels - but they lack a Disney theme. They weren't built by Disney and they're not managed by Disney - you'll "feel" a difference there over staying at a Disney managed property.

mmmm, Tubbies. Do they still have Tubbies? The all-night cafeteria?

It's funny you say that delray because I was feeling almost the opposite.I have stayed at AKL and at Disneyland the GC.I am going to be staying at the CSR and my husband and I were apprehensive about doors that open to the outside.I'm not used to generally staying at any hotels where the doors are like that and I'm not sure why.Paradise pier,in my opinion, doesn't have much of the "theme"thing goin' on either.WL is a lot like GCA so I think you will like that.AKL is awesome and the same pricing as WL. :)

Let's see.... I've been in the Polynesian..... and at the Swan.

The Swan had better beds, but to me, it still "felt" like Disney as the folk there treated you the same as any Cast member would. Not to mention that the beds at the Swan were the best I've ever slept on in my life.

When I win the FL Lottery, I'm buying one of those beds --as soon as I buy my own house. ;)
Thank you, Walt, for making animation what it is today.

Our favorite resort is PO Riverside, so we really like the rooms with outside doors; it's great to open your door and see all that beautiful landscaping right in front of you instead of a dark hallway. We like to stay on the ground floor near a quiet pool; very convenient for quick dips.

Funny story: One day a pair of friendly mallards followed us back from the pool to our room. They stood there on the threshold, looking around like they were checking the place out. We were afraid they might actually come in, but didn't want to shut the door on them, so we scrounged up some crackers and went out and fed them. They had their snack and went on their way.
