I love the Sci Fi Dine In, but for great quick/casual fare, the Backlot Express has this turkey sandwich with arugula and red pepper... mmmm mmmm good!

Depends what you're looking for and your price range. But I hear Hollywood Brown Derby is the restaurant to eat at. Just give me a chilli dog at the Studio Catering Co. and I'll be happy.

Backlot's not there anymore. It's something else now, like something with "The Flatbread" The ironic thing is the only thing they serve on flatbread is a chicken ceaser wrap. There's no more turkey sandwich either. I got a pulled pork sandwich though which was good but the price was like 6-7 bucks, 7 + tax I think.

While I've never eaten at the BRown Derby in MGM I have eaten at another Brown Derby which I wasn't a huge fan of. I know it's not fair to judge THIS Brown Derby on the other, but it's my excuse for not dining there. I have eaten at the other 3 and although SCi Fi is fun, it's very loud, it's usually packed, and it's basically counter service food at a sit-down price as I recall. It has been a while though. We just ate at the 50's Prime Time this last trip which honestlly I've never really enjoyed as I'm not a big fan of that type of everyday American food. I'm going to post on it in my trip report, but I was the most pleased with the meal/service of my group and I felt it was subpar. While the salmon as good it was TINY (like real tiny, like 4 bites) and had basically no sides. I think it was served on a bed of mashed potatoes that was basically the same diameter of the tiny piece of fish and very thin depth wise. It was very tasty, all of it, but for 17+tax I was hoping I wouldn't be hungry after my meal. The other bad part was our server, who did a great job acting the part and having fun, forgot to bring us silverware and even though he wasreminded twice we had to resort to asking another server for the silverware. The second time we reminded him was when he brought our entrees so we had our entrees sit there on the table for a good 7 minutes getting colder before we got another server. After we asked for the check it took another 15+ minutes for him to get the check and then even longer for my friend's change. I enjoyed the entree taste-wise but portion wise it was not good. My friend said his 22+ steak wasn't great, and my g/f thought the fried chicken was only okay. I got the brownie desert which filled up the hole that was left by the meal but it also sorta grossed me out. It was sort of tasty but just the M&M's and cracker-jacks on a brownie sundae were kinda overkill. I guess I'll just C&P this in my next trip update on MGM at night!

Anyway in conclusion I love Mama Melrose. They too give small portions usually but it seems more on par for price and ambiance and all. They're bigger than what I had too so smaller than outside a themepark bigger than what other sit downs can and do offer. Sci Fi and 50's are FUN to go to as an attraction basically, but for real food I'd say Mama Melrose (or maybe the BRown Derby  )

AGGH! Since when!? That was my favorite place to get a quick bite at the Studios...

At least I got my turkey sandwich when we were there back in December...

Sci Fi is my favorite place to eat there. Probably my favorite in all of Walt Disney World. Love It!

Sci-Fi Diner is a tradition for my family and I. We eat there every visit now. Our second favorite is the 50's Prime Time Diner, so I'm surprised to see it hasn't gotten any votes yet.

I thought the food was really good at Mama Melrose, but Sci Fi and 50's Diners are both so much FUN!

For a quick bite we liked the ABC Commisary. It has several different types of food to choose from on it's menu.

Hollywood & Vine has good food and is a great value. For counter service, you can't beat Backlot Express or the Dip Site.

Sci-Fi Dine-In.......Nothing better on a hot day, then to have your kids in one car, and the grown-ups in another....Decent food, entertaining, cold beer, and dark cool space......HOORAY!

Sci-Fi wins hands down for theme, but I like the food at Prime Time Cafe better. :mickey:

We really enjoy Prime Time mainly because of the atmosphere and the food that mom would make.

A lot of people don't like Mama Melrose's, but we've never had a bad experience there. Pretty good food, I thought. Prime time is great fun, though.
