Alien encounter was WAYYYYYYYY better, but too scary for the little ones. Perhaps if the do make a "VILLIANS" park, they can bring that one back. It was AWESOME! I was on it when they were still beta testing it, and it was one of the most amazing rides I've ever seen! 8)
I'm a little upset that stitch took it over though..

"Hey, Look at that guy in the Goofy Mask!" "That's not a mask!" "Oh... Sorry Lady!"

Alien Encounter was a much better attraction, but even like Stitch, after you rode it a few times it was old. You knew everything that was going to happen. That doesn't mean I didn't like it. I loved it. Loved it so much I bought the black baseball hat with the Alien Encounter logo. And yes, I saw children terrified on the ride.
I don't think Stitch is all that scary, but for kids I guess it could be. Darkness and loud noises can scare children and that's what most of Stitch is. The attraction just seemed so blah to me. Nothing really happens. And when he burps (in the place of the alien breathing on your neck) I just thought it was gross not funny.
Also, and I'm just being picky here, the ride is incorrect with following continuity. The ride is Stitch's Great Escape. But it's suppose to take place when he first escapes right? Well then his name isn't Stitch, it's Experiment 626! Tsk Tsk Disney.
I know before you bite my head off, Kids identify more with "Stitch" then "Experiment 626".

The rumor I heard is when AE first opened Michael Eisner went through it and said it wasn't scary enough. So they tweaked it.
I agree with those who say SGE is inferior. It's a step backwards, and in a place called Tomorrowland that's never a good thing.

No one's gloomy or complaining while the flatware's entertaining.
I went on Alien Encounter when I was about 8 or 10 years old and I remember crying during it, but really liked it when I found out we all survived in the end The next time we went to Disney though, it was gone and I guess they were working on it, because nothing took it's place at the time. Then, this last summer when we went, Stitch was there. I thought Sitich was kind of cute but I was really looking forward to going on AE again without being scared.
We just got back from our first trip to Magic Kingdom. Stitch was our least favorite of anything we did. My kids are 9 and 12. They thought it was cool---once. Even they didn't want to repeat it. I've been there and done that---don't need to see it again. I think if your kids are old enough and you have time, you shoud try everything once, even if it seems stupid.
I got back from WDW 2 weeks ago and have to say Stich was such a disappointment. While I can see how Alien Encounter might be too scary, it was much better than Stitch. Stitch caters to kids, which is not what Walt wanted. The ending was horrible. I hope they tear this ride down and make something that is actually "futuristic", isn't based on a Pixar movie, and conveys Tomorrowland's original reason for being a land of Tomorrow.

why does everyone call AE (and it's sub-par replacement) a ride? you don't move an inch. you're in a seat, sure. but the seat doesn;t move at all...
if anything, it'd be considered a show
