Looks like MK will be adding a new interactive entertainment experience to the park, this time similar to the Kim Possible adventure.

That looks like it could be a lot of fun. I can't wait to see what happens as things start to unfold in this new development.

If I recall, first it was Kim Possible, which they then reskinned to that Fin and Pherb version, then SMK, and now this.

For WDW it is a good idea since people stay there for more than a day and may want something to do that is engaging when they are between rides.

Kim Possible and Agent P's World Showcase Adventure were a little different in execution though I believe. Sorceror's of the MK and this upcoming Pirate's Adventure run on the cards that are handed out instead having a handheld device that needs to be returned. Same idea I guess though. I haven't played any of them but I am more intrigued by the newer versions as I don't have any knowledge or connection with Kim Possible or Phineas and Ferb since I never saw those shows. I would have to be vacationing for several days before I would want to take the time to play any of the games though ~ I would rather take in the attractions and shows.

True, but they all use the same core of "Thingy drive gameplay", in the case of the Epcot stuff it was a dumb-phone, in SMK it was cards with optical data printed on them, and for this it looks like it may be an rf reader (since no camera is visible).

I think these newer games will be more popular if for no other reason than you don't have to finish up in the same spot in order to return the equipment. And if you get bored halfway through, you just walk away...again without having to bother to return something.

I understand the need for the kids' games at Epcot, because, let's be honest, younger kids just don't find the pavilions at the World Showcase to be interesting. But I don't understand why these games were added at the MK. Is it to try and distract from when the wait times are agonizingly long?

Maybe to sort of spread people out just a bit more? Or to try to drum up more interest in kids that are so used to being entertained all the time?
I know I had read in one of the blogs that the blog writer was taking a rest, sitting on a bench and people walked by a few times and sort of sighed, or gave her a dirty look each time. She said she didn't notice until they got up to go on with their day that they were sitting in front of one of the game portals and the people were waiting for them to move along!

I actually haven't seen any of the films lately, and I've only seen the Canada film with Martin Short. I don't think the films are the draw - it's the feel of being in another country without having to go to another country. The performers, restaurants, shops, all give a "taste of" kind of experience. I credit the Norway pavilion in 2001 for giving my older daughter her interest in visiting Norway some time.

Maybe our family is weird. We aren't interested in any reality shows whatsoever, watch a lot of PBS and HGTV, love science and history documentaries (except the hubby, he calls that "family nap time"), and don't spend much time or money with video games. I couldn't begin to tell you which song was made by which singer(s), and I have no idea who's with whom right now. Hubby keeps up with movies because that's his major hobby. We watch some sports, like football and hockey. And we have two TV's in the house total. We find learning things to be enjoyable and something we seek. Trying new foods is not just encouraged, it's expected, and we read. A LOT. Over spring break my girls read almost 25 books between the two of them.

So I don't understand much of what "mainstream" Americans want. I don't have the short attention span problems, and I don't see the appeal when places like WDW begin to pander to make changes that accommodate the shrinking attention span and decreased value of learning that is so pervasive in the U.S.

But at the same time those are more stereotypical tourist versions of those countries and not a true reflection of an experience of actually visiting. It's not like you would walk into an office in Berlin and expect to see men in lederhosen and women in dirndl. Even the food is questionably accurate since they did modify them for US palates, and the culinary landscape of the typical resident may be vastly different. You probably have the same experience if you went on a bus tour of these places, the only difference being there isn't a sheet of plastic in front of you.

I don't consider it related to short attention spans but rather a simple attempt to fill in gaps in the visit, odds are the average guest stay is about 5-7 days, they may not be totally interested in riding everything multiple times, they may also not be interested in some attractions but other parts of their group are. In reality, it is just more of a natural progression in making the environments more interactive. It started with Indy as well as Toontown, but now they can go beyond cheap gimmicks and create something more compelling.

If it really were about short attention spans, they would have rolled it out in DLR years ago.

I was at Mk on Saturday and they were doing a soft opening test for part of the day! It was really cool! There are a few different adventures you can do, each with a different map. We only did one of them, but I can't wait for it to open. Lot's of fun!

Fun! Are there cards involved like for the Sorcerer's of the MK? Or just a map?
