Yeah that's an interesting thought. My understanding is that DLR and the WDW MK are about the same size in volume of people. Or, do I have that wrong? I know MK occupies more land.

Not sure actually, I can say that DLR closes it's gates due to occupancy more frequently than MK, but the numbers are off because the first group shut out are the offsite and non ap guests.

According to Wikipedia (great source, I know!) WDW MK had 17,142,000 vistors in 2011, while Disneyland had 16,140,000. They are 1 and 2 in worldwide attendance. This isn't including all of the other parks, but California Adventure was at 6,341,000 (14th in worldwide attendance). So yeah, interesting that Disneyland and Magic Kingdom are so similar in attendance figures.

DLR and MK have special events throughout the year that bring AP holders back over and over. Things like holiday overlays and special parades make these parks worth traveling to if you are close enough. Also, for most families that are on a 4+ day vacation to WDW, they are more likely to visit MK twice during that trip which can inflate the numbers a little bit I guess.

It also isn't a verified sum, considering that disney is just giving the numbers but may be only counting number of times a person passed through the gates in a given day.

Can I just say... Guest Relations staffed the last test and boy was it a $%^*%*!!##$% (insert irritated expletive here), there needs to be more guidance so these nutty guests don't keep messing with the machine when they have no business touching it. They're like fish - "Oooo shiny new thing, let's go play with it!" only to be told by us not to touch unless you have the magic blue card.

Looks cool. I just hope it doesn't mean the end of FP distribution in the parks. Who wants to have to plan ahead 180+ days which attractions you want to visit on a certain day

But isn't it normal to plan dinner reservations for a whole trip 6 months in advance? :D

Not for us. Of course we also don't eat at table service restaurants for the most part. The only ressies we ever make are for Via Napoli, but it isn't 6 months out for sure  There is enough planning that goes into a WDW trip, we want to be a bit more spontaneous than have to show up at a certain park, at a certain time on a certain day! Of course it doesn't hurt that the table service restaurant dinners are mostly too expensive for us anyhow

They really need a sardonic face. Yeah, if you are planning reservations out that far in advance for what you are going to eat you probably could use some crisco for that sterling silver stick up your butt. :D

Unfortunately that seems to be the way WDW works. And I think a lot of people aren't that thrilled about having to plan things out that far in advance, but for others it works out well. It would just be nice if the restaurants would leave a few slots open to accommodate walk-up diners!
I do wonder though...if you stay at one of the most expensive resorts, can the concierge get you dining ressies??

It might vary by the place, but it's more of a yes and no answer. If you must eat at this place at this time they would probably not be able to do it but (having called once) if you can give them a window they can get you in. Though that isn't an option for some places since they just don't have that many tables.

Our last two trips were with 9 and 10 people, so we HAD to plan 6 months in advance. I don't know how well we would do with planning our FP's that far in advance, though.

Hubby and I yearn for a trip with just us where we do whatever, whenever. :)

I definitely agree. It's one thing to plan the dining reservations, but once we get to each park, we like to make that spontaneous. Planning exactly what attractions to visit at a certain time would definitely take a lot of fun out of the trip. They should just keep the FP distribution the way it is!
