Other Magic in Central Florida
Ok, the topic on driving around Disneyworld got me thinking about this one. My wife is a huge Harry Potter fan, so I have promised that on the next trip we will sacrifice a day at the World so we can check out Harry Potterland (or whatever it's called). So what's the best way to get there? Should we rent a car for the day, take a taxi, or something else? We will be staying on property.
As a side note, although I am an avid reader, I have not been much of a Harry Potter fan. In fact, I only started reading the books a month or so ago, since my older son is interested in them. I have been reading them to him at bedtime, and they are quite entertaining at least:).

I think there is also a way you can take a Lynx bus around from Downtown Disney area, but that might be a bit tougher to do. I would look into the cost of it, but a a daily rental or taxi IMO would be the best way to go. It really just comes down to price of the car as you are limited to renting through Alamo. They will pick you up at your resort and the rental car will be at the car care center.Brian845 wrote:Ok, the topic on driving around Disneyworld got me thinking about this one. Yeah, I was thinking the Car Care Center was the best way to go, but maybe a taxi would be faster?Len90 wrote:I think there is also a way you can take a Lynx bus around from Downtown Disney area, but that might be a bit tougher to do. So what is there to do in Harry Potterland?

Don't know what is there in Harry Potterland, but keep in mind the cost. With the rental you'll have to pay for parking at Universal which is not cheap and gas, also not cheap. Disney has Mears taxis at every resort waiting so you'll definitely save time with it. Secondly, there are always cabs at Universal as well.Brian845 wrote:

After living there for a year, I would take a cab to Universal. You will save time, money and stress. They know the back ways and the short cuts that will keep you off of the I-4 parking lot that occurs every afternoon and at random times during the day for no reason.

as for potterland, tthe main rides there are the flight of the hippogriff(low-intensity), dueling dragons (same ride that was SUPPOSED to go into Beastly Kingdom in AK, and the moving-KUKA arm ride, Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey... and then there is Ollivanders... where they push you to buy a wand that picks 'you'

I will stick with Disney. Universal and most other theme parks are not heavy people friendly
We will spend our hard earned cash at Disney

The coasters are reskins, but I wonder, what will they do for out here? Will the coasters be skipped since it makes the project far more expensive to have to build them at USH.dstrawn9889 wrote:as for potterland, tthe main rides there are the flight of the hippogriff(low-intensity), dueling dragons (same ride that was SUPPOSED to go into Beastly Kingdom in AK, and the moving-KUKA arm ride, Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey... and then there is Ollivanders... where they push you to buy a wand that picks 'you'

What will they be removing from USH to make room for WWHP out there?Wizzard419 wrote:...but I wonder, what will they do for out here? Will the coasters be skipped since it makes the project far more expensive to have to build them at USH.

Just taking a quick glance, two attractions on the chopping block are Waterworld and the T2 3D show. They also noted that neither of the coasters would be added and they might reskin an old attraction or two. They really don't have much space (looking at it from above). If they elected to expand the guest areas of the park they would either have to take out some of City Walk, good as it would raise the price on rent for them but bad since it may scare other tenants away, or expand into the studio tour area, which is not very large to begin with.
All the parks, barring Six Flags, in So Cal also have a unique problem, they all have suburbs built up right across the street. Due to that, most are hesitant to try for outdoor thrills since they have to deal with zoning and adding in those sound walls on the ride itself.

Hehe, how much can I expect to pay for 2 of the wands? I don't suppose they take Disney Dollars!dstrawn9889 wrote:as for potterland, tthe main rides there are the flight of the hippogriff(low-intensity), dueling dragons (same ride that was SUPPOSED to go into Beastly Kingdom in AK, and the moving-KUKA arm ride, Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey... and then there is Ollivanders... where they push you to buy a wand that picks 'you'

Re: Other Magic in Central Florida
Not much different than the Build your Own Lightsabers deal. Do they light up and make noise at least? I mean if it's just a stick I can get those in the back yard!:)Amy wrote:Good luck on the Disney DollarsBrian845 wrote:Hehe, how much can I expect to pay for 2 of the wands?
