I can't imagine that Universal has the indefinite rights to Marvel. They didn't with Hanna-Barbera. During that contract, Hanna-Barbera was sold to Ted Turner who then in turn sold out to Warner Brothers. When that contract was up for renewal, Warner Brothers decided not to do so and the ride had to be pulled from the park.

Re: Avenge the Monorail!!!
I'm going to guess that even if they do get a legal response from Universal, there will be no impact on the wrap since both sides have powerful legal depts, which would slow down any attempts to force the removal, and Disney can defend that it isn't a ride but a promotion for a film.

Re: Avenge the Monorail!!!
I thought that the reason they kept it on the Express line was that it didn't go, physically, into the park like the Epcot line does. With this, it skirts the issue of having Marvel characters "inside" the parks...

I used to get enough guests mixing up DHS and Universal, now imagine the mass confusion....mindflipper wrote:Frankly, I think it could be confusing for some tourists who already get WDW and USO confused all the time (like those people who want to see Harry Potter at WDW's DHS, or those looking for the Tower of Terror at USO). While Marvel is over at USO's IoA, advertising for the Avengers at WDW is just putting the wrong reinforcement to that confusion...

Honestly, when this happens and someone is asking where to find Harry Potter at DHS (like it did back in Jan 2012) - and this was wicked of me - I would give them directions of where to go in the park to find it...Soarin08 wrote:I used to get enough guests mixing up DHS and Universal, now imagine the mass confusion....mindflipper wrote:Frankly, I think it could be confusing for some tourists who already get WDW and USO confused all the time (like those people who want to see Harry Potter at WDW's DHS, or those looking for the Tower of Terror at USO). LOL, Amy, I can't remember how many times in Jan 2012 I heard other people talking about WWHP being at WDW. I remember one group talking about how they were going to FastPasses for it after they rode Star Tours. Good luck on that!
Re: Avenge the Monorail!!!
yea they would need luck on that it does not have fastpass that I saw.mindflipper wrote:LOL, Amy, I can't remember how many times in Jan 2012 I heard other people talking about WWHP being at WDW. Re: Avenge the Monorail!!!
It was written into the original contract between Marvel and the people/group that owns Universal (I am assuming just the Orlando owners/department). It was discussed by the major news orgs at the time of the sale, and recently as well. My understanding was this was done because at the time Marvel was not in a position of strength; so that "forever" bit went into the contract, I guess along with the standards provision I read about elsewhere.mindflipper wrote:I can't imagine that Universal has the indefinite rights to Marvel. It was mentioned again last month in the L.A. Times after the shareholder conference w/Iger. Other articles explain the stuff mentioned previously about how it means those specific characters, character families, etc. are not allowed to be used by another theme park East of the Mississippi, unless Disney can get US to sell the rights back to them. Here's a link and the relevant quote:
http://www.latimes.com/business/la-fi-c ... 8349.storyIger didn't mention which Disney park might get an infusion of spandex-clad heroes. Its competitor, Universal Studios, has the rights in perpetuity for its Marvel Super Hero Island attraction, which includes rides based on Spider-Man, Dr. Doom, the Hulk and Storm, and features a number of other characters from the X-Men.
I agree with y'all saying the wrap will likely confuse some people. The Hulk part in particular makes me think of the coaster and those parks. Kind of like promoting US/IoA on Disney property.

It's hard to step back far enough from my love of Disney to understand how people could go to a theme park and not know what attractions are thereSleepy90 wrote:yea they would need luck on that it does not have fastpass that I saw.mindflipper wrote:LOL, Amy, I can't remember how many times in Jan 2012 I heard other people talking about WWHP being at WDW. Doesn't Universal have the VIP ride pass thingie where you can pay more for front of the line access? Harry Potter isn't one of those rides?

Sorry, but it really isn't that hard to read the guide map that they hand out at the entrance and is available in every shop and kiosk throughout the park, is it?
