Does DL use wristbands for EMH?Wizzard419 wrote:Well, it would only take a few mins. If all 3 (for this example) are in the park, two go get their bands, give the ticket to the third, then find another wristband location.

I'm not sure if they do EMH at night for DLR. They did have wristbands for that AP party, which were paper, and they had to physically scan your passes to issue the bands. Though, since they were simple, a piece of printer paper and a highlighter would fool the staff (they aren't paid to think about it).

Uh no, I use it as a CM with my ID... and I've had friends who have standard tickets come in and use it.theBIGyowski wrote:Yeah...I'm pretty sure the finger scanners are only used for Park Hoppers and APs.Amy wrote:Was it a single park ticket too? I would guess if it was a hopper, you would have to use the finger scanner so they could verify you if you used it at another park the same day.mindflipper wrote:When I used to do day trips and purchase a one-day ticket I didn't do the finger scanner. Just put the ticket in the slot, gets dumped out the other side, and went through the turnstiles...
I don't know what you guys are saying, I've never not used the thing for ages. With park hoppers, my ID, or a one-day standard ticket.

What we are saying is that they don't seem to use the system all the time for all tickets, possibly because it costs money and it's effectiveness is marginal.

Since they started this, we've always had hoppers (always purchased from concierge in the resort's lobby, with one exception a couple years ago when we bought a MYW package), and 95% of the time, we've had to use the scanner.
The only exceptions I can think of are a couple times when there were apparently issues with the machines, late at night at Epcot (roughly 10 minutes before Illuminations), and not long after opening on one of the SWW days last May. They were so slammed with people, they just had everyone put the ticket in and go on through the turnstile, no scanner.

disney also uses some boss data-mining and tracking software... really, why else do you need to stuff your ticket into the slot to get a fastpass... to let disney know who you are, and what rides you went on... i wouldnt be surprised to find a RFID chip in my key to the kingdom, just to let disney home in on what i ride and which order...

as for my data-mining mention... never once did i tell the crew at booking how many times i had been... just my first and last name and dob... then they said, WOW, mr strawn Welcome back for the 16th time! that is alot of data to sift and compile for the computer, especially since this was the FIRST time i had paid for tix and rooms...
Re: Ticket Fraud at WDW?
Yep, my experience too. Only time I didn't use it was after I got my new company ID last summer and it didn't yet read my finger, so they instead scanned the barcode on the back of the ID. Other than that, never haven't used it.SorcererDonald16 wrote:Since they started this, we've always had hoppers (always purchased from concierge in the resort's lobby, with one exception a couple years ago when we bought a MYW package), and 95% of the time, we've had to use the scanner.

They even make my maingate guests do the scanner when the tickets they receive on my pass print out. And those aren't bought anywhere, they're free.

I'm actually surprised they don't try and get you to link up other things (like APs from other parks) to the hotel system, through discounts and whatnot, so they can get more realistic reads on what AP holders need to spread those wallets wide open.

Really? They seem totally clueless about if I had ever been and stayed on Disney property anywhere...dstrawn9889 wrote:dstrawn9889 wrote:disney also uses some boss data-mining and tracking software... really, why else do you need to stuff your ticket into the slot to get a fastpass... to let disney know who you are, and what rides you went on... i wouldnt be surprised to find a RFID chip in my key to the kingdom, just to let disney home in on what i ride and which order...

Had your address changed or something like that? That may have been the way they linked some of the groups together since name alone is a bad one to use due to the large volume of people that they deal with each year.

Making them do that for pass print outs is surprising! I guess it makes sense though, so someone doesn't try and sell it off later in the day to someone outside the gates?Soarin08 wrote:Yep, my experience too. Generally speaking, I don't mind the scanner, other than the germs I can imagine growing on those things. Somehow I doubt they are regularly disinfected.

This kind of tracking is probably the only type that I wouldn't be in opposition to. Usually I think it's nobody's business which websites I visit or which stores I choose to shop in. But Disney tracking which rides which type of guests attend, or where they shop, or whatever, probably helps them make the park more enjoyable for everybody, provide services and merchandise most people want, and maximize their profit margin in the meantime.dstrawn9889 wrote:disney also uses some boss data-mining and tracking software... really, why else do you need to stuff your ticket into the slot to get a fastpass... to let disney know who you are, and what rides you went on... i wouldnt be surprised to find a RFID chip in my key to the kingdom, just to let disney home in on what i ride and which order...
