Yeah, I can't see myself taking the time for a movie while I'm at Disney either, but lots of people do. Plus I imagine for people that live close, that is just the theater they would go to...cousininmiami wrote:Maybe it's just me, but I will never go to a movie on a vacation at WDW. We do things at WDW that we can't do at home, like go to the parks, eat at the parks and visit the beautiful resorts. I would however go to Pleasure Island again, listening to live music or a comedy show used to be a fun "other" thing to do after the parks in the evening.

That and the one at Universal are the two best options for where I live (10 minutes if not less to get to DTD) unless it's for real IMAX then its the Regal near Wonderworks on I-Drive. And trust me, many people on vacation to to the movies, especially Disney movies.Amy wrote:Yeah, I can't see myself taking the time for a movie while I'm at Disney either, but lots of people do. The mexican company that started it all (apparently they have like 20 years in the field) is opening it's first US one in so cal, though I still can't imagine I would want to go to it vs going someplace else for food and then to the movie.
Re: New Hyperion Wharf - makeover Pleasure Island
The only time we ever went to the movies down in DTD was when we were there for 2 weeks and it torrentially down poured 12 days straight. We had no problem going out and playing in the rain, but we decided one night we were just gonna stay dry.Amy wrote:Yeah, I can't see myself taking the time for a movie while I'm at Disney either, but lots of people do. That makes sense. I would probably tough it out and put on the ol' poncho and be glad for lesser crowdsleblanan wrote:The only time we ever went to the movies down in DTD was when we were there for 2 weeks and it torrentially down poured 12 days straight. Some people just really enjoy the movies, some friends of mine make it a point to go every time because it is a tradition for them.

That makes for a nice tradition. I never go to the movies at home so I wouldnt think to go on vacation...wdwmedia wrote:Some people just really enjoy the movies, some friends of mine make it a point to go every time because it is a tradition for them.

No to mention all the restaurants also at WDW. Makes for a different "dinner and a movie" every year.wdwmedia wrote:Some people just really enjoy the movies, some friends of mine make it a point to go every time because it is a tradition for them.

UPDATE: AMC Dine-In theaters have changed up their menu. Not much has changed but a few things taken off and a few things added in their place.

turn the way----back machine to SW-AOTC... that was the only movie i saw at that AMC... premiere weekend, that is the only reason... normally dont look for things i can do here(read: GA) when i am HOME!
Re: New Hyperion Wharf - makeover Pleasure Island
True that some don't and won't, there are those of us who live here and the DTD AMC is our local theater. Then again, there are those who have a tradition of going to the movies while at WDW. Either way, I won't be anywhere near DTD or Universal CityWalk tonight as the twi-hards will be running around because of the new movie opening tonight. Man, that crapfest can't end soon enough (no offense to anyone who likes those books or movies, I just can't stand most of the fans...)!!!dstrawn9889 wrote:turn the way----back machine to SW-AOTC... that was the only movie i saw at that AMC... premiere weekend, that is the only reason... normally dont look for things i can do here(read: GA) when i am HOME!

Re: New Hyperion Wharf - makeover Pleasure Island
I think that is part of the reason they built DTD here and at WDW (not sure on WDW's demographics though). Outdoor malls with an emphasis on dining and movies are common here and the DTD attracts a lot of locals.
Though now the model is outdated as many of these places now also have some form of large scale grocery/big box shopping as well (such as a whole foods, target, lowes, etc.) so you can eat, watch a movie, and pick up groceries, a case of condoms, and a chainsaw in one stop.

Oh, it's still there, I just wouldn't necessarily be considered very pleasurable to visit?!flyer32 wrote:I miss Pleasure Island....I wish it was still here =)
