No, you're inferring that because you didn't pay attention to the rest of the movie. The ponytail is a form of "bonding link" that all creatures on Pandora have. When two creatures make the "bond", it simply is a way for them to sense what's going on in the others' mind and body. Each can sense what the other is feeling and communicate mentally to a certain extent. So as a prelude to their sexual encounter, the two main characters "made the bond". But that wasn't the actual sex. They're obviously not going to show that part in a PG-13 movie.

I did pay attention to the movie, but that was the funniest part since their sexual organs are used in odd and hillarious ways (yes, sex does involve more than just the gonads). Either way, it seems fitting to use the phrase "Doesn't matter, still had sex"

No, some organs do perform more than one function; what you're thinking about is like a kidney, for example - yes, it's primary function is filtering blood, but the alternate use is as a means for generating revenue by selling it on the black market for transplant organs.
