Re: No monorail service during EMH
Since Epcot doesn't close until 9:00pm every night (except EMH) wouldn't that mean the monorail to get you from Epcot to TTC and then TTC to your hotel would run until 10:00pm, thus the "local hotel" monorails would be running until 10:00pm every night? And what if you have a dinner reservation at 7:00pm at Chef Mickey but your staying at the Poly...does that mean you have to be finished with your dinner before 8:00pm (when the MK closes at 7:00) in order to take the monorail back to your hotel? I suspect that the "local hotel" monorails will run until 10:00pm every night. Anyone have any thoughts?

Re: No monorail service during EMH
My thought is that you are a bus family and it doesn't affect you right now. However, now, with no monorail service, all those people who used to take the monorail are going to be waiting in line with you for buses, getting in front of you, opening and closing their strollers, trying to figure out which is their bus services, etc, so I think in the long run you personally will see the affects of closing the monorail line.Satchel T wrote:We're a bus family anyways so this doesn't really affect us much... However I could see where it may back things up a bit for certain guests.

But this is one of those things that we will have to wait & see how it plays out and if Disney actually does run more frequent busses and boats.

And I'm sure they'll be tweaking the new policy a bit along the way...

I think the people are mostly thinking of it like "all monorail service ends during normal hours", we haven't heard anyone say how packed it is during the later hours of EMH.

I haven't experienced it being packed during late EMH - like midnight or later. But I have experienced the monorails being very crowded and a rush to get out all at once for the parties - usually after the first parade and then after the fireworks. One Halloween party we did, we literally ran down Main St. to stay ahead of the coming hordes of people....that was actually kind of fun though b/c we were at the front.Wizzard419 wrote:I think the people are mostly thinking of it like "all monorail service ends during normal hours", we haven't heard anyone say how packed it is during the later hours of EMH.

Which is why they won't be impacted in any way by this.

Re: No monorail service during EMH
A lot of people have mentioned this forcing the monorail resort guests to take the bus or the boat. Unless I'm mistaken, I'm pretty sure the resort boats do not run during the evening EMHs. I remember our boat captain telling us that the boats would stop thirty minutes/1 hour(??? can't remember 100%) after park closing and if we were staying through the EMH that we would have to take the monorail back. My husband greatly prefers the boats to the monorail and I remember us having to take the monorail on those late nights.
I can see why they might need more time for maintenance, since EMHs often go to 2-3 am in the summer, then they have to run for about an hour afterwards to get everyone out, and need to be ready just 3-4 hours later to start shuffling guests around for the character breakfasts on the monorail line and park opening. But I REALLY hate them taking away a "perk" of those deluxe resorts. Even though it only affects 1-2 nights per trip, those rooms aren't cheap.

Can't wait to take my twin boys on their first trip to Walt Disney World! Planning on heading there sometime Feb-May 2014!

Re: No monorail service during EMH
The release from Disney mentioned the boats, so I'm guessing they are adding those while taking away the monorail service. I really don't think it will be too bad since I would guess a majority of people have already cleared out of the parks the hour or so after closing while they are still running the monorail.Polynesian Princess wrote:A lot of people have mentioned this forcing the monorail resort guests to take the bus or the boat. Does anyone know how much longer it takes to get to the monorail resorts via bus as opposed to the monorail?

Re: No monorail service during EMH
Might be not that signifiant for the other 2 hotels along the way since a bus would be a direct route rather than stops along the way.

Re: No monorail service during EMH
Buses are diesel not CNG. As of last check it was a biodiesel blend they were using on the buses. The safari trucks for Kilimanjaro Safari are modified to run on natural gas since it is safer for the animals.Wizzard419 wrote:I think your tin-foil hat might be a little too tight. They probably noticed that there is a major gap in usage after hours and simply wanted to stop hemmoraging money.
Aren't the WDW busses CNG not gasoline? Here is something to take into consideration, you need a lot more manpower to run the monorails since every station has to be staffed, the work crews, etc.
