If you base all possible future changes on the ones you don't like (and are ready to go to battle over it) then you're going to just give yourself a headache, even more considering that you don't have any control over it.

Haunted Mansion Holiday, Small World Holiday (ok that was 97), the Space Mountain changes (including Ghost Galaxy), The Haunted Mansion updates, the updates to Spaceship Earth, Exp. Everest (the Yeti may not work but it isn't a horrible ride), World of Color, Fantasmic at DHS (I always hear it's meh from locals but everyone else loves it), all incarnations of Tower of Terror (the first one is pre 98 but still), Toy Story Mania, Rock'n Roller Coaster,.... oh wait you only said a few. I will just stop here then.

HMH, SWH and Ghost Galaxy are temporary, not permanent changes. If they were permanent, I don't think people would like any of them at all.
HM changes were okay, but ETR: UNM - ughhhhhh! JIYI1 - ughhhhh! JIYI2 - ughhhhh! New 360 Canada film - ughhhhhh! Dreamflight - ughhhhh! Monsters Laugh Floor - ughhhhhh! Stitch - ughhhh followed by puking!
But really - Spaceship Earth update?!? - have you listened to that silly babble from Judi Dench? Rome was the first "world wide web" and the Jewish and Islamic scholars of the Dark Ages were "the first back up system" - ughhhhhhh!
Fantasmic at DLR - good; the changed version of Fantasmic at DHS - ughhhh!
Exp. Everest, TSMM and RnR - and Soarin' (not on your list - not good?) are not changes - they're totally new attractions that haven't yet been changed - yet. But for new attractions they were good. Mission: Space I'm sure some love (I found it boring).
WoC is new, and has had only one minor change to add TRON (is that permanent or will it be temporary?) so I have no idea if that change was good or bad.
Best example of changed for the better: Splash Mtn. DLR's is good, but the changes made for WDW IMHO made WDW's better.

Now you're just arguing semantics, the overlays are still changes, and you can have an unpopular overlay, such as Rockin'. So they still stand.
The the individual diehard fan's opinion is mostly irrelevant since many hate any change made since the 60's. What I count as a sucessful change is if people actually want to go inside.
All of the Jorney into imagiation (first version included) were never that sucessful, they wouldn't have made any attempt to change the first version if enough people enjoyed it.
I would have added soarin' but you said only a few and I was already past that level.
They are changes to the park itself, adding land, replacing other stuff, etc. Though I am sure that some people hate Soarin' over the loss of Food Rocks/Kitchen Caberet.

Nah, I'm sure Wiz and I just think of as a "frank and honest discussion" of the topic at hand. Everyone has different opinions and viewpoints, we like to discuss them vigorously.Jacca5660 wrote:mindflipper if you say blue Wizzard419 is going to say another color!

Anyone can join in on the discussion. I think Wizz and I would prefer a "roundtable" discussion with everyone instead of a "point-counterpoint" discussion we've been having...

I'll side with........ Wizz on this one, sorry mindflipper. While I LOVE original attractions, I think updating them or even replacing them occasionally is vital. I loved Horizons... but no one was ever on it. It was ALWAYS a walk on when I was there. Same with World of Motion. LOVE them both, but look what has replaced them. Mission Space still commands long lines at times and Test Track is consistently a long wait. People WANT to ride them.
Walt believed in consistently updating attractions when new technology was created or the story got old. Can you imagine if we still had the Pack Mule ride?
The additions to the Haunted Mansion queue help tell the story and they give people something to do related to the story as they wait for long periods before they enter the attraction. I believe Walt would have been a major fan of interactive queues as long as they didn't hinder the story. Don't know what he would think of the Soarin' queue.

I wonder why they haven't put any interactive queue stuff in DLR yet? Must be a space issue.
Speaking of changes, for anyone who went on DLR's space mountain in the last few weeks, do they still keep the bright white lights (almost like worklights) on inside the queue?

What is special about the Soarin' queue? I don't remember anything about it other than it was loooooooooong!NaCler wrote:...I believe Walt would have been a major fan of interactive queues as long as they didn't hinder the story. Don't know what he would think of the Soarin' queue.

Amy - It has little hand-held games that you play while standing in line. That's why I said I wasn't sure how Walt would feel about them as they don't really add value to the story.

Re: Ideas on new Haunted Mansion que
I don't mind dumping old rides. IMO WoM needed to be dumped, and Test Track is a better ride than WoM. Horizons was old and updating it was too expensive, so we got Mission: Space (which I find boring). I don't mind updating current rides for technology improvements, such as with HM and POTC. But can you say JIYI1 or JIYI2 was an improvement? And what about DTR: UNM? "All change is good" is an untrue absolute. And to me, while we tend to find the changes for the better acceptable (like HM and POTC changes), the badly conceived changes for the worse tend to be more glaring and horrendous (JIYI1, JIYI2, Stitch, ETR: UNM, etc.). I think Disney needs to employ more brain power in making changes for the better, not for the worse. Whatever their system is for determining what changes need to be made needs to be "updated" and "improved" as well.NaCler wrote:I'll side with........ Wizz on this one, sorry mindflipper. I wonder if Disney could have saved more money by closing down Imagination pavillion instead of the money they spent on JIYI1 and JIYI2? While having a closed building looks bad (and it doesn't seem to stop WoL being closed), having it empty for a pariah ride just seems wasteful.
