I agree that Tony's is over-rated. Prime-Time is okay, but I feel you're paying more for ambiance/atmosphere/show than anything else. Check Len90's trip report. As for O'hanas, I went for the first time back on Dec. 4. None of the food was charred on the outside. Other than the pork, I did not find any of the meat dried out either. The beef was excellent, although I wished they would have shelled the shrimp first. The thing to remember with some of the themed dining restaurants that if you don't like the style/menu/theme, then you shouldn't eat there. I'm not fond of Mexican, so I never even think of eating at Mexico at EPCOT.Mr.ToadWildRider wrote:That is EXACTLY how I felt about the place! If it weren't for the sauces there was no way I was eating the meats, they were all super charred on the outside and very dry on the inside. The appetizers were the best part.Lion Sleeps Tonight wrote:Over-rated: 'Ohana. I normally hear very good things about this place, so maybe it's just me. Been there twice. Both times I'd rate it as average. I liked the appetizers such as the noodles and the wings more than the actual skewered meats. The chicken, beef and pork all seemed overcooked and dry. The sauces made the meats edible. The entertainment is all right, but I get bored watching the same parade; I'd probably have more fun if I had kids.
It's not a bad place to eat, I think it's just overrated.
It's funny though so many people have as their favorites all the places I thought were overratedEven PrimeTime I was underwhelmed esp. for the price, but I was going for the experience knowing I'm not a big fan of that type of food. No one in my party liked their food there except for me (I had a fish dish, salmon maybe?) though mine was incredibly tiny for what I got and I wasn't impressed, I just wasn't displeased.
I have to say though I would never recommend anyone go to Tony's Town Square. The only enjoyable part of the entire meal was the bread. Even the water tasted liked they'd scooped it out of maybe the Poly's pool- the chlorine content was overwhelming beyond even that of most central FL water. I also had some sort of shank, it may have been veal? I forget it was a few years ago now. It came in a brown sauce that tasted like they'd poured a full bottle of vermouth into it. I'd rather have my booze in a glass with my meal than soaked into the meat that comprises my meal. We also had an app to split and while it was good enough not to specifically remember how terrible it was it was clearly unmemorable.

Favorite: Teppan Edo, my family and I always eat here no matter what! You have to have a good chef though because half the fun is the show. The food is always very good and I saw someone said it was small portioned but I think they are great portions, I never finish my plate and always leave stuffed.
Overrated: Sci Fi, It's freezing in there for one, I had lunch there once and ate as fast as I could just to get out!! The food is mediocre at best, I've had better quick service meals. The concept of sitting in the cars is cool but you kinda feel separated from your family as you only sit by one person.

Re: Most Overrated and Favorite Restaurant?
My wife and I had a 'once in a lifetime' meal at Victoria & Alberts. I've never had a better meal anywhere. The dining at a Disney vacation is important to me so I always figure the dining plan into the budget. We wouldn't eat any many of the 'sit downs' if we didn't have it.
To me the 'overrated' is the counter service in the parks. It's edible but not 'vacation' food.

Favorites: Empress Lily (now gone), Alfredo's Ristorante di Roma (now gone), Liberty Tree Tavern (still there for now), Bistro de Paris in EPCOT, Sunshine Seasons in the Land, Plaza at MK (great burger and milkshake), and like NaCler I will now add Ohana at the Poly.
Overrated: Rainforest Cafe (awful food), Coral Reef (looks nice, poor food - Sea World has a better version of this restaurant), King Stefan's Feast in the castle, Nine Dragons at China in EPCOT (almost inedible), and Tony's in Main Street at the MK.

Favorite: Toss up between the Rose and Crown (I love pub food) and Crystal Palace (for the atmosphere - watched fireworks from our table one time).
Most Overrated: Coral Reef. I've eaten there a couple times. The food is OK, but I've never been truly impressed.

When Coral Reef opened back in 1986, it was very impressive including food-wise. Over years, it has been badly mismanaged into an awful restaurant. They figure people are coming to see the fish so why worry about the food? To me, big mistake...

Re: Most Overrated and Favorite Restaurant?
even at this moment (just having finished a big spaghetti dinner) i look forward to my next meal at the garden grill. this may be one of the freshest most delicious meals offered anywhere (not just in wdw), and yes i would eat there if it were down the street. i could skip the "character" portion of it, but my kids like that, so it's great for all of us. most overrated? w/out question the breakfast at cinderella's table (castle). did i pay for ambience? service? characters? great food? i don't know, i think i got ripped off on all four counts. to this day the only thing i can say i got for the price was bragging rights to having been upstairs in the castle, and to this day i'd still trade those rights for the return of my time and money.

Re: Most Overrated and Favorite Restaurant?
DW and I had great food at Coral Reef...but the service was slow and it was loud loud loud. Kinda sad considering it was our honeymoon and we were wearing our buttons that said so. You would think we'd get a little better service. But like I said...our food was pretty dang good. I made sure to get the special...which is probably why it was so good. I was upset though that they took my favorite entree off the menu...the blackened catfish over cheese grits.

One thing I've realized after many trips, is sometimes you just get bad experiences. I've been several times to they Maya Grill over at Coronado Springs, one time I had a horrible meal. But it's my sisters favorite restaurant so we've been back a few times. A couple times it was ok, a couple times it was fantastic.

My favorite restaurant is Ohana.
Most overrated, cant remember the name, but the restaurant inside the Mexico Pavilion, the atmosphere is amazing, but the food was by far the worst ive had at WDW.

San Angel Inn. I ate there about 4 years ago. The food was fine but nothing to write home about. The atmosphere was amazing, though, as you said.joeyflds wrote:My favorite restaurant is Ohana.

Seems to me this is a place Disney can really improve, with the atmosphere they can really take this restaurant to new levels.momeja wrote:San Angel Inn. I ate there about 4 years ago. But then they would probably have to raise the prices and then people would complain about the fact that the restaurant had great food, but high pricesjoeyflds wrote:Seems to me this is a place Disney can really improve, with the atmosphere they can really take this restaurant to new levels.momeja wrote:San Angel Inn. Doesn't Mexico have two - the one inside and the one outside?
Re: Most Overrated and Favorite Restaurant?
They have a new one outside, havent got to try it yet but I've heard that one is pretty good. We might give it a shot in March.mindflipper wrote:Doesn't Mexico have two - the one inside and the one outside?
