WDW 40th
Hi,
I know I posted this question last fall but now that we're closer in to the WDW 40th...does anyone have some scuttlebutt on if/what will be happening for the 40th Anniversary for WDW?
I would love to go and they have a sale right now (up to 40% off resorts) so I'm wondering if it would be better to book now or hold off...
They just posted a note on Facebook about a 40th Anniversary print of the parks by SCAT that are neat so I'm hoping they are prepping!
Thanks! Kian
Happy Friday everyone!!!

I haven't heard anything ~ it's hard to believe it has been almost 40 years alreadykian wrote:Hi,

Re: WDW 40th
Well, to be honest, they did nothing for 30th or the 35th, and did a last-minute half-hearted something for EPCOT's 25th (or else it would have been nothing as well), and never for any of MGM/DHS's milestones...so I am expecting nothing or not much of anything at all for 40th. The other parks love to celebrate milestones - especially TDL - but the management at WDW is a bit cheap so ignoring would save some $$$ as far as they're concerned. Maybe they will feel compelled to do something for the 50th in ten years after all the effort that went into DLR's 50th? Or they can just hope everyone will forget all that in ten years.

Did DL even do that much for their 50th? It didn't seem like there was all that much hoopla, other than the ceremony...mindflipper wrote:Well, to be honest, they did nothing for 30th or the 35th, and did a last-minute half-hearted something for EPCOT's 25th (or else it would have been nothing as well), and never for any of MGM/DHS's milestones...so I am expecting nothing or not much of anything at all for 40th. Re: WDW 40th
They had the rebuilt Space Mountain open for the 50th, they had one "golden" ride vehicle in several attractions, a special film about Disneyland starring Donald Duck and Steve Martin which replaced Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln, special fireworks celebrating the attractions including image projections on IASW (may have even been the first time that was done), and there were other things to celebrate it too.Amy wrote:Did DL even do that much for their 50th? In fact, the only milestone WDW has celebrated so far in the last 10 years was Disneyland's 50th! Signs were plastered throughout the parks, and they had that "Stain Glass" oval above the castle entrance.
Re: WDW 40th
The one thing DL did for the 50th was to PAINT and REPAIR almost everything. After years of neglect in some areas (eg Tom Sawyer Island) it was the best part of the anniversary, IMHO.
No one's gloomy or complaining while the flatware's entertaining.
Re: WDW 40th
The entire MK park has had refurbs on buildings. Main Street and other building facades have been under refurbishment (right now the Main Street Confectionary, El Pirata and Pecos Bills are under tarps) over the last few years. Makes you wonder what for.horizons1 wrote:The one thing DL did for the 50th was to PAINT and REPAIR almost everything. Maybe that is part of the upcoming 50th celebration, a fresh coat of paint and some refurb for some buildings....MadEye wrote:The entire MK park has had refurbs on buildings. I doubt they would start refurbs for the buildings for something more than 10 years away. *shrugs*Amy wrote:Maybe that is part of the upcoming 50th celebration, a fresh coat of paint and some refurb for some buildings....MadEye wrote:The entire MK park has had refurbs on buildings. Re: WDW 40th
Actually, as we've seen from photos over the past year, Disney has already started an extensive exterior renovation program on the various buildings at the park. How many times have we've seen photos of buildings wrapped with scaffolding covered with a printed facade that resembles the buiding underneath?
I have not heard anything about a 40th celebration. Not even any advance promotion of special limited edition merchanding like pins.

Re: WDW 40th
I agree, I didn't see much for the DL 50th either...but I'm just keeping my fingers crossed that they will do something for the WDW 40th
It gives me an excellent excuse to force everyone down there with me!
I guess I was jumping the gun with the 40th anniversary prints they were releasing and signing this weekend in Downtown Disney...sigh.
Thanks everyone for the info!

I am almost certain that they released a set of 40th anniversary pins for AP holders at WDW.

Ah . . . here:
http://eventservices.disney.go.com/pint ... n?id=55314
Now I'm not sure if this is the 2011 annual AP pin as well because for the last few years it's been a large pin that you had to buy the pieces of at different times of the year.
I also found these:

http://eventservices.disney.go.com/pint ... n?id=54996
http://eventservices.disney.go.com/pint ... n?id=55484
Hope this helps a little.

And since mindflipper asked so nicely, here are the 40th vinylmation releases:
http://eventservices.disney.go.com/stat ... wdw40.html
Click on one of the vm's and it will give you a closer picture. They are quite nice AND they are an OPEN window series, which basically means you know which one you are buying.

Those are actually pretty cool. I like how they have the year at the bottom for each park opening.NaCler wrote:And since mindflipper asked so nicely, here are the 40th vinylmation releases:
