No they charged us but at a lesser rate when I complained that they WERE charging us for the full price. I think we got the same room we were staying at for half the normal price. I wish I could have done that for the entire trip.

I would never go to Walt Disney World during Hurricane season.

That rules out 6 months of the year since it runs from June 1 - November 30. The chances of a hurricane during your exact dates and hitting Orlando are pretty slim. :)

And with the way things are going soon they will add another month onto the Hurricane season. I will still go during the season. I just bring some extra stuff, like ponchos, flashlights (which I usually do anyway), etc.

I was there durring Hurricane Andrew in 1992. I was in high school during the time and while part of it may have been that I didn't understand the power of such an event, the Disney cast made us feel very comfortable. In fact, one of the cast members went as far to assure us that in the event of a disaster, the parks would be the best place to be due to all of the supervisions setup for such cases.

I would imagine that's even more true since such disasters as 9/11.

Not quite hurricane status , but in August 2008 we experienced tropical storm Fay which basically was not moving ... 3 days it rained solid with very heavy winds ..... only good thing is no queues at the parks

Hurricane Earl (2010) miraculously stayed away from Florida while DW and I were there for our honeymoon. We had perfect weather during the entire trip, even though there was a hurricane off the coast. Thank you God! (and Walt ;) )

I remember working the top of Astro Orbiter in Tomorrowland at MK during Hurricane Wilma in 05. No one was in the park that night aside from a few people. A rule of Astro Orbiter is that it has to run every few minutes even if no one was on it. Fun night!!

Does it have to run to contribute to the evening atmosphere of Tomorrowland?

This year we had the closest thing which was Alex passing through the Gulf. He made landfall in southern Texas, the effects went straight through the Gulf and into central Florida. It brought in about 2 days of rain, cooler temperatures, and some wind. It was a bit awkward, but the weather never slowed us down. I honestly don't ever want to be there during a hurricane. Disney was on pins and needles with Alex that far away. They sent the 3:00 parade out at about 2:55 just so it could be back and the floats could be stored before the storms hit.

Nope. The motor/engine that runs it is a piece of crap and needs to be run every few minutes so it doesn't shut itself down permanently (it's under the whole Lunching Pad/TTA Load, Unload/Astro Orbiter "building" and is a ***** to replace and/or work on) and require an unneeded refurb.

Oh. That sounds like something that needs to be fixed someday! I was thinking that it ran like that so it looked pretty whirling around, and people would see it and say "I want to go on that!" The truth is not as rosy as my imagination :(

Only thing is that in order to do a total overhaul on it, they would have to tear up the whole structure above it (Astro Orbiter, TTA Load/Unload, and the Lunching Pad).

Trust me. The truth is never as rosy as anyone's imagination when comes to how WDW runs...
