Disney's Art of Animation Resort
Unless I missed it elsewhere, the unfinished Legendary Years across from Pop Century is going to be finished for a 2012 opening. Called Disney's Art of Animation Resort, it will feature buildings from The Little Mermaid, The Lion King, Finding Nemo and Cars. It will be classified as a "value" resort.
Anyone else heard of this? Good timing given the Fantasyland expansion.

That's the latest news. We'll see in a few days if it's just another rumor but the sources on this one seem to be more valid than the ones in the past. I wonder why they decided to change the theming...maybe because of the increased corporate revenue coming from the newly very financially successful film division.

With Disney releasing all of their classic animation films on Blu-Ray...and the Fantasyland Expansion...this is perfect timing. It will also allow them to start making money off of the property that currently sits there rotting. There is nothing worse than paying a lot of money for something that sits there and rots.
Maybe after all of this is done they can do something with River Country.

Sounds like a great idea... also sounds a lot like All Star Movies. HOWEVER, it seems like even better theming. I'm sure today's kids can relate much more to the Little Mermaid than they can to the Mighty Ducks.

I have not heard a word about this until just now. If this is true it must mean that Disney is feeling pretty optimistic about the future economy.

As soon as I finished the last post I went to the Orlando Sentinel web site and there is information confirming this in the Daily Disney section. (I would attach a link directly to the article but I don't know how. I know just enough to be dangerous.)

Nice... I am very happy to hear about this. I actually enjoy the Value Resorts and think that a movie themed hotel would do very well. Especially if they decorate it in the over-sized way that they did for the other Value resorts. Kids seem to love the really big statues outside of their rooms.
But with Zombie Land gone, what else is there to make fun of???

Ahhh... River Country. I did not get to enjoy this growing up but it always looked like fun and I wanted to try it. Oh well...theBIGyowski wrote:There's always River Country.

Yeah...all of the zombies that live in the Zombie All-Star Resort go to Zombie River Country for their recreation.

Re: Disney's Art of Animation Resort
This is great news. I read about this earlier today and was very happy to see they are finally going to finish up the Legendary Years. I honestly just hope the buildings that are standing are still in good enough shape after years of neglect. It is great timing for this resort to open as mentioned earlier. It coincides perfectly with the release of the movies on blu-ray AND with the opening of the new Fantasyland. I guess Disney is expecting a rise in attendance for the opening that they want more hotel rooms.
I am really happy to see Disney taking all of these steps in the right direction. They are showing some good signs in the past year that I really didn't think would ever happen. First they are spending the money to redo Fantasyland. They are also starting to attack those vacant and half built things like the Legendary years. I just hope that EPCOT is next on the list for WDI. There is too much vacant space to let it just sit.
