You are right. We did it once during the Annual Passholder preview.mindflipper wrote:As for American Idol at DHS: a reality show may be entertaining for TV, but I don't go to an amusement park in order to see a reality show. IMHO it's cheaply made for TV, and it's cheaply made for amusement park. Given what I pay for amusement park, I expect more.
Well, as they say, there is always a first an a last time for everything.

It surprises me and honestly saddens me a little to know so many diehard Disney fans are so unwilling to give certain attractions even a try because of pre-conceived notions.
I'm not a show/parade kind of guy but I'll give em all a shot at least once. In fact, Voyage of the Little Mermaid and Fantasmic are some of the more interesting attractions at DHS in my humble opinion (though I will never see Beauty and the Beast again, blech). Ironically, my initial thought about each was "I don't like stage shows so I probably won't like these" but I figure if you're paying the money you may as well give it a shot.
The same is true of "thrill rides." I'm going to maybe get a lot of disagreement with this statement but there truly aren't a heck of a lot of "thrill rides" at WDW. ToT and RnRC almost certainly make the cut with EE being a fence sitter but some of the things people saying they refuse to go on because they're dubbed "thrill rides" are pretty tame. Test Track is hardly a thrill ride. If you've ever been a passenger in a car going on the highway you've probably been on this thrill ride (granted however most highways don't have banked corners and not a whole lot of people have convertibles but still...). And as for the mountains of MK the only one I'd really even consider for a thrill ride is Splash Mountain, BTMR and Space are glorified mighty mouse coasters. That PrimevilWhirl at DAK is more thrilling than either and that's just cause you end up getting pinned by other riders. I guess what I'm getting at is unless you have some medical reason for not trying out a so-called "Thrill ride" try them! Some of them offer so much more than a thrill! Splash Mountain and ToT come to mind first followed by EE!
And I guess that segways into my overall opinion in you should give everything a shot once. Particularly stuff you can't assess from the outside (what I mean by that is you can see the entire PrimevilWhirl, Dumbo, Tea Cups, etc. from outside the queue and at least can assess whether it looks fun or not)- never going on an attraction that you can't even see (i.e. virtually ever attraction in WDW) from the queue/paths seems like you're just asking to never try something you may have an entirely inaccurate view of!
Sorry for all that it's just I know in my youth (8-14ish) I was terrified of "thrill rides" and bored by movies/shows/etc. and I skipped so much that I now view as must-dos!
As for attractions I've actually never tried and have no intention of trying my list is pretty short as you may be able to guess from the above. It's limited to basically just Triceratop Spin and Aladdin's Carpets. They're just knock-off Dumbos. I'll also admit I've never seen Flights of Wonder nor visited Rafiki's Planet Watch as generally we don't stay at DAK too long (but I'd give em a shot!

Mr. ToadWildRider: everybody has different tastes (likes and dislikes). Some people like CBJ - some don't. Same for the ETR. And everyone has different definitions as to what is a "thrill ride" and what's not. I'm not surprised or saddened by people's statement in this thread; far from it, it's fun knowing we all have different opinions and ideas of what we find fun about WDW. It's interesting to see what other people have to say.
For me, I can't stand American Idol on TV - so why would I want to see an attraction of it? Just to give it a try? I haven't had a root canal or hopefully never will, but I don't want to try it for the sake of giving it a try.

That's usually my mantra Mr. Toad...give everything at least a try once. I do tend to stay away from certain attractions simply because I physically do not want to put myself in a situation that might take away from the rest of the day (the exception being RnR, when I plead insanity...I will most likely not go on that again unless it's the end of the day and I have another spell of insanity)
I will try every show at least once, but usually it's time permitting. (yes, we have gone to the Playhouse Disney show sans kids...we had to get some pics for our niece) Certain shows I absolutely have to see, but others IMO can wait. I wouldn't want to give up what little time we might have in a park to see AI...but if we had time, I would go once.

Ooh thrill rides... growing up in Ohio I agree that Disney's "thrill rides" are actually quite tame, except perhaps for Everest. I just put in my request for company tickets to King's Island so I'll be enjoying some giant roller coasters here in a few months.
If I'm really lucky I'll work in a Cedar Point trip this summer as well.
I still love Disney more, though. One thing they do the best is psychological impact - ToT is so intimidating because it's hidden away on the inside of a building. The Power Tower at Cedar Point is twice as tall and a zillion times more potent (as you can choose to ride the side that shoots you up instead of just being dropped), but since it's right there for all to see people can make that easy decision "its not for me". I know so many people who were terrified of ToT only to have it be their favorite ride once they finally got up the nerve to ride.
I'm also in the "try everything once" camp; that way I can say for sure that I never want to experience something again.

I totally agree that some people like CBJ (myself definitely included) and some don't etc. but my point is how do you know you don't like CBJ unless you see it? This thread is primarily about attractions people don't even give a chance, not things you've tried and never had any desire to do again. It's like saying "I don't like Country music so I won't like CBJ and never try it" or "I didn't see the movie Honey I Shrunk the Kids so why should I try HISTA?" or "I'm not a history fan so I will never even try SSE."mindflipper wrote:Mr. ToadWildRider: everybody has different tastes (likes and dislikes). Everyone is entitled to their own opinions and I respect that, it's just my opinion that I would never rule out a potentially awesome experience based on some pre-conceived notion. Particularly in Disney where the vast majority of attractions are aimed to please the general population; NOT some niche groups. I know it's easy to dismiss things without trying them, I have the urge all the time- most recently it was for Lights, Motor, Action! when I thought to myself, "Stunt shows are generally lame and cheesy, they eat up so much time, do I really care about a bunch of people driving cars around for the better half of an hour?" but then I said "Why not I'm here may as well give it a shot" and I loved the show! On the flip side I didn't want to try Stitch but applied the same logic and saw it and I probably won't be going back, but at least I tried it and can say it's not for me.
People are free to do as they choose. I am not telling anyone what to do, not even close. I'm simply trying to encourage people to be more open to things without shutting them down. I'm a 25 year old male and I enjoy Voyage of the Little Mermaid. Who knew? If you try a new attraction every trip and 9/10 of them aren't your cup of tea but you find a new fave among them isn't it worth it?
