Yea got DME tags today!

I'm sooooo excited. Fed Ex just came and dropped of the packet with our Disney's Magical Express luggage tags. Just makes me so happy knowing our trip is getting closer - 18 more days!!

Congrats! Have fun! Make sure to hit those parks when the first open. It's crazy down there this year. I think people are making up for the past couple of years. And it's ungodly hot, so pack lots of tank tops and shorts.

Thanks SpringheeledJack - I will. We'll be down for 2 weeks and we have A/P's, so we should be able to go at a much less-stressed pace.

Plan on swimming and/or napping in during the super hot afternoon hours. Shower, dress, then hit the parks back in the evening all cool and rested.

Is it really rainy in mid-July?

Not over the past few years, but it seems like Florida is falling back into that "40% chance of rain every day" groove, again. Afternoon showers to cool down (and steam up) the air, but you'll be fine. Actually, our last trip it rained every day after what was basically months and months of drought conditions. But there were no complaints from me, since that kept everyone else away and kept things cool.

Best advice: do just like you said. Hit the parks in the morning until it's packed, then hit it again in the evening when it's cooler and a little less packed, again. Skipping the afternoons will save you some energy and frustration, and you'll probably have more fun 'cause of it.

Oh, and find out what parks are open early for resort guests.

And definitely make dining arrangements in advance. It's hard to get those this time of year. Give yourself a week or more in advance to make them. And if you're adventurous, make sure one of them is the Boma. That's my favorite.

We have PS for Jiko's - hope that's just as good. Do you still think we'll need PS for dining during off hours? Like 2 or 3 pm?

Most of the resorts with buffets aren't open for lunch (using that time to prepare for dinner buffets, instead) and typically open around 4:30. Lunch is a tricky one when it comes to getting good food in those areas. Most of it is the normal chicken finger/hamburger fare. We typically go off property and hit some of the restaurants at Downtown Disney (I'm a big fan of Earl of Sandwich), or possibly near the outlet malls ten or fifteen minutes away. There's a Sweet Tomatos (Souplantation if you're from the West) nearby, and that's always a good way to offset the heavier food you'll probably be dining on most of the time.

There are some great places in the parks, however. My recommendations are to shoot for The Land in Epcot, which has a pretty awesome selection especially after the revamp. Or make advanced reservations for the Crystal Palace in Magic Kingdom (another of my favorite buffets), and features some suprisingly lighter fare. I know MGM and Animal Kingdom have some good places, but we rarely stay at either long enough to eat there, and prefer to work around eating lunch there.

As for Jiko's, it's some great dining so you'll be happy. But if you have children, I'd shoot for the Boma. It's a lot more kid friendly, and they have free reign to eat whatever they want. (If you can't tell, I'm a huge Boma fan...

)

But, yeah. I'd get reservations for ANY place you plan on eating if they offer them. You're coming in the high season, and most of them will be packed regardless of time.

Okay, I suddenly feel like I'm a disgrace to the Disney Fan. What's a Disney Express Luggage tag? Is that the new tags that you send your bags from the air port to your Disney hotel?

Yep - those are the ones. Don't feel bad, if we weren't flying this trip, I probably wouldn't know what they were either.

Have fun lovesdisney44! I'm so incredibly jealous because my girlfriend and I are still a ways away from our trip (163 days, 14 hours, 44 minutes, 10 seconds)... I watched the planning DVD again last night just for kicks.

Report back on the weather/crowds/fun!

Will do Spaulo - (just for kicks) you may also want to request a DVD on the Disney Vacation Club. It's really great to watch too! You must have a countdown timer to know excatly home many minues and seconds are left - correct?

is it possible that you scan/post a pic of the tags? I'd like to see what they look like before I order mine. Of course, they'll probably change in the next year or so (trip is planned for December 2006).

Don't have a scanner, sorry. But - they are about 2 inches wide by about 7 inches long. They are bright yellow with sticky stuff on the back (like a regular sticker). It listes the resort you are staying at along with the name of each traveler and date or arrival. We got 2 tags per person. The instructions on the back of the tag read: "Tear tag from booklet, remove the indicated backing material and wrap the tag around the handle of your luggage."
