Is the Yeti ever working????

I've never gotten to see the Yeti working even on videos. It seems the YouTube videos would always drop their cameras down to follow the track as they start to roll again, even when he was working. Unfortunately, the company that built the Yeti into the mountain went out of business and Disney has no recourse but to fix it themselves and they estatemate the cost to be around $4 million to repair it, because it is built into the structure of the mountain and can't justify the expense so far.

Sad. Truly Sad. The Yeti standing there all menacing but just some cheap strobe lights for effect.

Wouldn't you think that Disney would do enough research not to hire a company about to go out of business to do something this important?

It's not like it's the only company out there that can build/repair those kind of animatronics. Disney can bid out the repair work - but then again, it wouldn't be cheap to fix..

Rode it a couple weeks ago and to be honest, I couldn't tell if was working or not. I'm guessing that I would have noticed if it was working.

After doing some research, well, it pretty much is the only company that can do the repair work.

Every time I rode EE I never noticed the Yeti not functioning. I have noticed that they made the room darker which allows for less viewing of the beast, but It has always been very animated.

Unfortunately, we did not make it to AK on our last trip, so I cannot report whether or not the Yeti was functioning. He was on our first ride on EE, that was on our honeymoon in '06.

He did the "leaping out at you" thing on our trip in '06, and ever since then he just stands there like a bump on a log. So pathetic....

I guess that I never made it to the AK in time to see the Yeti moving the way that people describe him when the ride first open. I am a little sad but I guess you never miss what you didn't have in the first place either....

What's sad is that they made a big deal about how awesome the construction of this thing was. They talked about how life-like it was...how you know it's fake...but you believe for at least a few seconds that it's real.

This is something that has to be fixed for WDI to save face. It's like if the ToT stopped dropping and they just used wind and sound effects to trick you...hoping that you would just accept it.

Rofl!!! I know people that bid construction work for the theme parks i.e. WDW and Universal. You don't know how close that might be. But that's a different thread lol

I only saw it working once and ever since then nothing. But even though it's just strobes that give the effect. With the ride of the coaster included you need to be paying attention to really notice if it is or isn't working. So imo it's bad that Disney would not do something by now, but in the end, I think the number of people that notice are a minority to the majority that don't notice and think it's working lol.
