My husband and I love it because we enjoy the great food available (especially in World Showcase.) Sure, we could live without the sit down meals, but they enhance our vacation experience.
My friend, on the other hand, went with her husband and three kids. It was their first Disney experience, and while they enjoyed the sit down meals, the group would rather have spent the extra time in the parks. The scheduling and time for meals seemed to be more of a hassle than it was worth to them.
I guess I am saying that you really need to know your group and its goals before you decide on the meal plan.
This is it exactly. Getting the total value requires MUCH time out of the parks (so to speak). There is a time commitment to doing table service once a day. Given that the days of midnight closing are long past (oh what fun that was), we find time spent eating a sit down is time wasted. And, we are QUITE FULL after two days of TS meals. We need a break!

So, if you are eaters, are you don't mind the time commitment or the volume, it sort of works (really, it's sort of a wash).

And one more thing, when we've done the DP, we've always looked for the highest priced snack. Some folks go ahead and get a bottled water as their snack, which just drives us crazy. There was a time when you could get a cheesecake or something like that which normally sells for $4. Don't know if that's still possible (and of course you have to want it).

In three weeks we are doing the dining plan. Snack, counter service and table service. I have reservations at:
1900 Park Fare
Chefs de France
Tuto Italia

My trip report will be around August 17th!
