AP Nights @ the Hotel

More questions and experience wanted. I am thinking about using my deluxe annual passport for the first time (besides buying it) and coming down from Utah to go to disneyland. I am into the AP nights we get as special offers. Anyone stayed at a resort hotel on an AP night? Was it cool, a rip-off? What?

Someone confirm for me because I've never had the opportunity to use my AP on hotel advantages, but aren't the AP nights just a hotel discount? I didn't think there were, like? Social events or anything involved?
If I'm correct, and let's say that I am becasue I enjoy my over-inflated ego, it's worth it. You can pretty much stay at Paradise Pier for the same price as one of the good neighbor hotels. When you call to make your reservation, tell them you're an annual passholder and you'd like the AP deal, much like using AAA or some other discount they'll make a note of it on your reservation so it should be smooth sailing when you check in.

That is what I figured it is. I just wanted to know if there were any more details involved. I know it is a lot cheaper. So paradise Pier is only like 30 dollars cheaper with the discount. Is PP nice? A fun place to stay?
I have only ever stayed at the Disneyland Hotel and I loved it.

All the hotels on the disney property are fairly nice. What it all comes down to is: Is it worth it to you and your family?
The few times I've actually stayed over in Anaheim (I'm only about an hour's drive away from the park, so I usually have no need to stay), it wasn't worth it for me. At some point you have to sit there and ask yourself: "Okay, self, I can take this X amount of dollars and spend the night in a super fancy pants hotel or I can take that same X amount of dollars and buy 300 churros/have a romantic dinner with my significant other/take a tour in the park/bail myself out of jail after they catch me swimming naked in the pirates of the caribbean. Which is more important to me?"
At this point in time, it's not worth it to me, but at some point it will be. Your mileage may vary.

At any time you can get a 10% discount on the room with an AP. However, when demand is low, they offer AP nights that is reduced even further than 10%. Usually around 25-30% from my experiences. I think one time I got the GCH for $169/night.
