POTC needing major overhaul

Recently I was at Disneyland and noticed that near the beginning of the ride there is a lot of leaking water. Thanks to Subsonic for figuring it out, but the "stow yer weapons" section is where the lift back to reality is. This section (on the right side) you can see a lot of water dripping down from a number of places.

Also just before this, where you have just passed the pirate with the bird on his hat there is a bright light in the ceiling that I saw a bunch of drippings comming from as well. I can only assume this light was added later because it is not hidden like most of the lights in the ride.

The amount of leaking water can't be a good sign. Unfortunately I don't know that there is a quick fix, so that leaves either a wait until its destroyed plan, or a long and expensive correction.

There also is a lot of damage to the ceiling right as you walk into the ride.

Hopefully they can find a solution to the problems.

PotC is due for a several month rehab, either at the end of this year or early next year. It is pretty much a done deal that there will be a very extensive rehab, but the actual timing is still up in the air.

Yeah, it occured to me, The ramp that you go back up at the end of the ride is over the Stow yer Weapon part.

I also noticed the ceiling material coming off. It kind ruins the end of the ride.

i hear that both disneyland and wdw poc are both getting a major overhall to include a jack sparrow feature to help tie in the movies to the ride
as well as bigger cannon splashes and more thrilling/scary inprovemnets

You should look at how is WDW's POTC! (or at least how it was at 2003, when I saw it). It was nice and all, but only after I saw DL's one in Feb this year, I figured how badly kept WDW's was.

I don't remember specific details, but I remember that when I rode DL's I was amazed at how the ride looked pristine, the lights were all calibrated (So I couldn't see the ceiling panels) and the audio was clear. WDW's, in comparison, suffered greatly on these aspects.

The only thing that caught my eye was indeed the peeling ceiling material at the begining due to water leaking.

The same case was with the Haunted Mansion, but here I got to see it just after it's TNBC version removal and rehab, so it doesn't count :)

Yeah, I saw the paint too at the beginning [not a hard temp fix, not sure why they don't just patch till the rehab]. Didn't notice the rest and doubt many "normal" visitors do either since it is a watery adventure. Still - will be nice to get all that patched up after the neglect from the 90's. That POTC is much better than WDW's - I just hope they don't mess with it in the rehab. Fix, paint, clean house, and be done already!

I heard that as well. I don't know how I'd feel with a life size Joh..I mean Jack Sparrow on Pirates. But if it means getting a huge overhall to improve the attraction, then I'm all for it.

The canon splashes in DLR are actually a lot bigger now. People get sprayed a bit as they pass by.

I just went last month and we rode Pirates first. My brother, my wife, and I all noticed that there was stuff falling off the walls, or rather, the walls had the exterior peeling off. This is towards the beginning of the ride, going down to the forbidden treasure.
It was kind of weird. Now I hear about these other things and agree. It needs a rehab. My little brothers said "It just isn't as exciting after you see the movie..."
They will be glad to hear that they may include a Jack Sparrow part. Plus I bet it would boost people visiting the ride.

Part of me wants to say "No! Don't update the ride with movie tie-ins!"... but after the late 90s PC-ifying of parts of the "sacking the town" section, it's not like it's Walt's PotC anymore anyway... so update away.

Besides, I have to agree with just about everyone here... PotC needs some TLC ASAP.

Wow, really? Even after the movie, the ride remained the same for me. Pirates holds a lot of memories as one of my fav rides, and the movie didn't affect how I thought of it. I guess you can tell I thought the movie was just okay- but lotsa people just loved it.

And Miracle. Sorry forgot about that one.

You have to remember my brothers are like 14 and 17. So they wanted the action and stuff that Pirates the movie had. I did still like it. My wife didn't like it a few years back too much, but has fallen in love with it since then because of the movie and more craze about disneyland.
Yeah. I did love the movie. I love the ride. So whatever is fine with me. I think it, the movie, was probably the best thing that Disney has done, live action film wise, in a long time. The only one that I have enjoyed near as much as Pirates is national treasure.

And Miracle. Sorry forgot about that one.

I see where you're coming from. It makes sense. I guess that's one of the cool things about Disney- it reaches all ages!

Weird how your quote got into my previous post.

this is getting a bit off topic here, but I will say this for anyone who wants to compare the POTC ride with POTC the movie. remember that the movie is simply BASED off POTC the ride. The movie also has a slightly different name. The movie is POTC: Curse of the Black Pearl with the sequel POTC: Dead man's chest. As with most things, add something to the end and it changes a bit (take movies for example: X-man and X2: X-men united or Resident Evil and Resident Evil Apocolypse). one, then a sequel and a new story line. no matter how much someone wants to compare the ride with the movie, it will never work out.

and last time I was in WDW, POTC looked like it would need at least a few weeks of refurb/brush ups and that was back in 2002.

I absolutely hate the idea of tying in POTC with the movie. I already hate how so many attractions are unoriginally based off of movies and TV shows as is. We need more rides like HM and POTC which are not based on anything except overwhelming detail and wonderful concepts.

To then make POTC like the movie would be the ultimate sell-out. I would rather see POTC taken out then it be based on a movie. I would rather remember it in it's oriiginal form. I can't explain how upset I am about the thought of this.
