Space Mountain sneak preview July1, 2005! *spoilers*

Post by XP-Chael » Jul Sat 02, 2005 2:19 pm

Hi, I'm new here, but I'm a gamer friend of subsonic and wanted to share in my experiences at Disneyland yesterday.

I worked half-day in order to take my gf and her visiting friend from seoul on a trip to Disney. It was a typical fun day/gorgeous weather at Disneyland with an average crowd, queues at roughly 40-60 mins.

Lo and behold I notice Space Mountain has it's queue open and a 60 min wait! Queue entrance attendants explain this is a sneak-preview for guests! Thanking my lucky stars we queue up and endure the hot 90 degree (or so) sun until the queue led under shade with cool breeze.

I'm not a real enthusiast so I wasn't paying as much attention as I now realize I probably should have, but I noticed most of the upper level queue was still similar to what I remember from before, but with new paint. I also am not sure if the queue I was in will be what the official grand opening queue will be.

Just at the entrance to the themed queue/building the cast members were only letting groups of people in at a time. The internal theming looked and felt much more up to date. The ambient soundtrack/voicetrack seemed mixed perfectly, though the associated new video and dude/dialogue seemed a little short/cheesy/dumbed down for whatever reason.

The loading area had the same feel, but also visually was obviously better/refurbished. The loading cast members were all working furiously and rushing people off rides like there was a 3am fire. This however lead to the winding ramp queue to move along pretty briskly over what I remember how long things used to take.

As for the ride itself, the music rocked, the sound was amazing, the feeling was stellar! Smooth and quick is what first comes to mind. I didn't notice any of the jolts or jostles from years past.

I think the ride is the perfect balance of sensory and physical input which enhances the entire ride experience!

I have a temporary picture location here:

click on the thumbnail for a semi-large image on the right preview pane, then click "full image" to see the image in the original huge resolution (2272x1704 pixel)

I'll be working with subsonic to provide a small video of the launch sequence...

Thanks for the photos and video. Wow, after the launch, it is pitch dark, not like @ WDW where alot of stuff glows in dark. Maybe WDW's Mission Space will be getting a facelift too?

I was wondering the same thing. Do you think that the Space Mountain in WDW will be updated as well? I think it would be great if they were able to update it as well. It is one of my favorite rides but it was starting to look a bit dated.

Well I will be at Disneyland around 15th 16th and 17th, I can't wait to ride Space Mountain, it has been a long time since I even been on that ride. For some reason I like waiting in line for that ride, kinda like Indy in a way but more a future base theme.

I'm glad to see that they didn't change the queue and loading area much, if at all. From what I can tell, it's the same except for some new paint. I hate to see them changing things too much. I've too much sentimental attachment to the tomorrowland of the '80s.

i went thre justs a month ago. the changes in the que line were noticeable and the loading area was soooooo much nicer. the elements were still the same, but it no longer looked like cheap white plastic. there was better lighting, sounds, and overall effects. the ride itself was much smoother darker and appeared faster. the new soundtrack isolated was good, but i still have a thing for the first sound track (dick dale). the spiral effect on the main lift hill (number 2) was very uncomfortable. i really got dizzy, and coming off that into darkness and turning right after really got me dizzy!
