Matterhorn Refurb

Does anyone know why they are closing the Matterhorn twice for refurb? From all accounts it sounds like they are doing a pretty extensive rehab now, opening again for the holidays, and then closing again to replace the bobsleds with bobsleds that have locking seatbelts. Is it because the bobsleds with the seatbelts aren't ready yet?

Normally they don't care about holidays with refurbs for matterhorn since it doesn't matter what they do it's going to overlap into a high season. So they might just want to minimize the downtime or use it as a time to beta test the new setups.

I guess that will allow them time to work out any kinks so to speak when they take it down briefly to install the new bobsleds....

I wonder if one of the reasons it has such crazy long downtimes is the large amount of moisture the trains and track itself are exposed to from the waterfalls and the pond?

I'll be posting the latest Micechat update in the other thread and it may talk about it there so keep an eye out.

Oh, that's a great idea. I hadn't thought of that at all!

OSHA’s been wreaking havoc all over the Park, so they may have to bring it up to code. I’m bummed that it’s closed during the upcoming D23 Expo.

Tell me about the refurb I was there last Week and all sorts of things were turned off! like the Earthquake rocks in thunder the dinosaur fight scene on the DLRR's final section and last but not least the Matterhorn! I was very disappointed because I was taking two friends who hadnt been before!

 Don't they know it's not about safety and more about fun? Okay, that goes against one of the four Disney Keys.

Just a quick note, Janaury 8th will be the last day to ride the Matterhorn for 5 months and the last time you will be able sit with your friend or honey in your lap.

The cars will be changing to a new dual car six person sled. We will see how this goes as being 6 foot six. It may go the way of Space Mountain where one mus cros his ankles to fit inthe sled.

It will re-open June 14th according to MICEAGE.

I do wonder if the thrill will be gone since you most likely will also be restrained with an actual bar rather than optional seat belts.

I am a little sad that they're closing it for that long but hopefully it'll turn out well. I'm going on Monday for, hopefully, one more time before they close it.

Well then, I guess it's a good thing a trip in February fell through (would have been my first). Matterhorn is one of the attractions I'm most looking forward to for my first visit.

I am going to miss the old cars with my long legs but the mountain does look great.
