That was fun ~ the peoplemover out at DL sure was creakier than WDW's version though!

yeah I think it used tires to propel itself...whereas the one at WDW uses the electromagnetic-linear induction-whatchamacallit technologyAmy wrote:That was fun ~ the peoplemover out at DL sure was creakier than WDW's version though!

Wow. Seeing that makes me very thankful there are no railings on the TTA at MK.

Weirdness is compatible with ours,
We join up with them and fall in
Mutual weirdness and call it Love.”

That would make it quieter...theBIGyowski wrote:yeah I think it used tires to propel itself...whereas the one at WDW uses the electromagnetic-linear induction-whatchamacallit technologyAmy wrote:That was fun ~ the peoplemover out at DL sure was creakier than WDW's version though!
Yeah, me too. I was thinking about the roofs too, but that makes sense that DL had those since they didn't have a covered track like WDW...MadEye wrote:Wow. Seeing that makes me very thankful there are no railings on the TTA at MK.

Re: AOL Disneyland Then and Now
Wait til next year...I heard the tire attraction in Carsland is supposed to be similar to the Flying Saucers of old. The technology just wasn't there in the '60s and I'm sure it's been perfected since!!! I've always wished I could have gone on the Flying Saucers!mindflipper wrote:I still think the air-based one they show there would be fun...Amy wrote:I had more of a chance to actually read this article this time (instead of just skimming though the photos ) and it is surprising how Tomorrowland looks nothing like the original. Or maybe it isn't surprising because that land is supposed to be changing and evolving as the future keeps changing...
Those flying saucers did look like they would have been fun. Aquatopia in Tokyo DisneySea is kind of like the water based version of it as the article suggests, and that attraction is a blast!
mindflipper wrote:I rode the Rocket Rodz - I gotta admit, it was fun (fun, but short)...
I agree. We always had fun on it even though the turns weren't banked and you practically got whiplash with all the speed ups/slow downs. It was especially fun in the front because as you took off, the front end lifted up. We're still shocked that in all the times we actually rode it, not once did it breakdown and we had to evacuated. Sure, there were plenty of times it was broken...but it never did while we were on it. Kinda sad about that though...we wanted to walk the Peoplemover track!

Re: AOL Disneyland Then and Now
It's a shame they can't duplicate the set-up at WDW at DLR for peoplemover...guess it costs too much $$$...
Re: AOL Disneyland Then and Now
it's just a shame that Tomorrowland (both of them) are mish-mashes of anything that has to do with space as opposed to what the future can hold. It's also a shame that there's this empty track at DLR that just sits there... rotting. It's like the Wonders of Life of Disneyland.

And it's salt in the wound considering it is supposed to be the place in the park to show "tomorrow" and the "promise of the future".subsonic wrote:it's just a shame that Tomorrowland (both of them) are mish-mashes of anything that has to do with space as opposed to what the future can hold. Re: AOL Disneyland Then and Now
I think Diz wants to get away from that, BIG. DLP's is called "Discoveryland" and I know at one time Diz wanted to rename WDW MK's Tomorrowland to "Discoveryland", but the plans to do so fizzled out. It's more "the idea of what we thought the future would be like".

Re: AOL Disneyland Then and Now
I know that DLR tried to do that back in the early part of the 21st Century...right? They tried to re-theme everything to the Jules Verne look and feel...but have since gone back to the vintage style.
Maybe I'm just cynical...and I need to sit back...relax...and enjoy my upcoming trip to WDW.

It does seem like Tomorrowland is heavy on the space theme. It does seem like they would take the time to make the track a little better looking, useful or just remove the darn thing!subsonic wrote:it's just a shame that Tomorrowland (both of them) are mish-mashes of anything that has to do with space as opposed to what the future can hold.
