I am guessing there were no changes, this was just the usual refurb they do every year or so.

I haven't heard about any changes. It's the usual referb to keep it refreshed and working properly but I haven't gone so I don't know.

The rides where water touches the cars/tracks always have a longer refurb (I'm looking at you Matterhorn and Splash), it's like owning a boat.

It makes sense that those refurbs would take longer. More wear and tear with different elements.
Has anyone gone on Splash since it reopened?

Disney does in fact keep the waters at cooler temperatures in the boat rides in order to minimize the erosive effect of the water.

I didn't realize that the water temperature had an effect on the boats ~ interesting!

But when they chloronate the water and allow it to sit out in the sun it becomes a moot point since it turns many things brittle. :D

on the subject of the refurb. ya they do a refurb about every other year which can takes months at a time, to make routine adjustments and fixs like working on the animatronics and regular saftey checks where they test the ride to make sure it works at full capacity

I'm glad it is open now. It was closed when I was there last Spring, and it was really unfortunate to see the mountain covered in scaffolding. There's nothing better than the smell of Splash Mountain!
