Wave Machine?

Post by Wizzard419 » Sep Tue 21, 2010 11:31 pm

Anyone know if the wave machine that they used for California Screamin' (they would make waves that would break on the rocks next to the launch platform) will ever be turned back on? It seems such a shame if it's gone for good since they actually wrote a blurb about it when the park opened (and how it was crazy expensive).

I don't know if I ever remember seeing that working when we were there. When did they turn it off?

When the Lagoon was drained for a bit I don't remember seeing it. Granted that area was covered in electrical cables for the WoC show so you really couldn't see much. Although with all of those cables there I doubt you will ever see it run, too risky to have the possibility of the cables moving and fraying. So I personally think that the waves have moved on to Yesterland.

They could also have kept it off because they are still working on the world of color stuff and that was their way into the lagoon for most things.

Come to think of it, I would swear the lagoon was at a higher level before the stuff was put in, so it might be that they simply cannot function due to no water.

I think it's a combination of too much equipment in the lagoon (and the fact that the platform still doesn't lower to it's "daytime" level yet) and a lower water level...but that's just MHO....

I liked the waves, but I have to agree with the Doc. I think the waves have been sent to Yesterland.

Of course, they could come back in 20 years...Capt. EO anyone??? ;)

Are they still having problems with the platforms that they aren't submersing them entirely yet?

As far as I know, yes. At least, it wasn't submerged when we were there in July.

Anyone in the area know otherwise?

When I was there last week they were still working on a platform, so I am guessing a section still refuses to sink or do whatever is needed.

I don't even think I recalled seeing waves there but I most likely didn't pay much attention.

The waves were triggered by the coaster. I am guessing it's supposed to be for atmosphere. When a train would arrive at the launch point for California Screamin' it would generate a wave that would break on the rocks next to the track. Not exactly sure how they expected to fool the people since you could clearly see you're in a landlocked area. :D

I bet most people didn't even consider where the waves would be coming from

In Regards to the WoC platform, they are still working on damaged parts from that earthquake from a few months back. So the platform is pretty much going to be at repair height or show height until it can be fixed. The fix may not happen until next year at this rate. Disney wanted to drain the lagoon and fix the problems soon, but with Murphy needing to be fixed and people not wanting to see fantasmic without her they want to leave WoC running until fantasmic can "handle" the people. Murphy looks like she won't be fixed until late November early December, and they don't want to shutdown WoC in the busy holiday season so it looks more and more like early next year.

And now back to the topic at hand.

The crash of the waves against the rocks was supposed to be the catalyst for the launch
