Afternoon cocktails at DTD or nearby?

Post by Ella618 » Jun Tue 22, 2010 6:15 pm

Hello - We like to escape the parks during the afternoon and sit in a bar with a nice beverage, doing some people-watching. Unfortunately, I discovered last September that there weren't many options in DTD from which to choose. We didn't like the Uva Bar, despite it's amazing location, and the lovely bar at the Napa Rose wasn't open at that hour. Our best find was the bar next to the lobby at GCA, but the service was always inconsistent. Anyone have any suggestions?

Those are about the only places I know that you're able to have cocktails. If anyone else has any other suggestions, I'll let them inform you.

My drinking routine with bhead and his brother usually consists of the bar in GCA. Usually we'll sit at the bar and have a few rounds and when we're feeling toasty we'll order a tall drink and walk with the glass and sit in the actual lobby of GCA. Then we go into the parks hit some rides, walk back to GCA, have another shot or two, then go back into the parks for more :) Near the end of the night we head over to the Disneyland Hotel to a bar called The Lost Bar and wrap up the night there.

But, as far as bars go, we've been to ESPN Zone, House of Blues, Uva, Lost Bar, and the GCA one. I did find the Uva nice for people watching. Perhaps the House of Blues would be OK. Another option would be to have an expensive beer or two in DCA at the wine area. That area is great for people watching as it's right next to the main walkway through the park. It's usually not busy either. :)

Now I want to go back with bhead and his brother and have another drinking fest!!!

Subsonic - you are our kind of tourist!! I love your plan of attack, and I suspect we'll put it into motion. Thanks! I'll report back . . . if I remember exactly what happened. . . .

That's what usually happens to us. The day goes by in a drunken stupor, I don't remember much, but I remember that I had a lot of fun and not enough time!

Hmm, not sure I ever thought of stopping and taking time to have a cocktail. I am too much of a go-go-go person on vacation. If I make the MMM in December, that will be my first time having a cocktail at Disney, even if we have to add our own rum ;)

Sub, I like this plan of attack. May have to try it with DH sometime (although on a slightly less soaked scale - I don't think I could handle too many rides and too many drinks at the same time).

GCA bar is good, so is chillin' in the lobby. Napa Rose bar is the best but doesn't open till 5pm, especially if you prefer fine wine and not that cheap, peasant meade! :)

We've been spending time at the Cove Bar in DCA. Not outside the park, but usually relaxing.

Just reviving this thread to see what people think of the bar inside Carthay. I tried it a while back, and thought the atmosphere was cool, but haven't been back in a while. Anyone else try it out recently?

I've heard good things about Trader Sam's Enchanted Tiki Bar. I haven't been there myself, but I'm a huge fan of tiki drinks, so I'm planning to check it out when I go next year.
