The fabulous Aladdin musical

Post by MmeLeota » Oct Mon 26, 2009 4:15 pm

We have seen Aladdin - A Musical Spectacular several times over and we have always loved the show. I will be sad when it goes away (I do not know the exact dates, but I do know that a Toy Story musical will be taking its place)

However, that is not why I'm posting this...

We went to the show yesterday (Sunday) and saw THE funniest Genie we have ever seen!!!! I know they like to inject current events into the jokes...and it always makes for great comedy. But I must say, this guy was fabulous!!!! He joked about Jon and Kate ("oh yeah, I went there") and balloon boy (forgive me, I don't remember the exact quote) and totally ad libbed a whole section when some people got up to leave. The actor playing Aladdin was even trying to stay in character because Genie was so freakin' hilarious and he caught Aladdin off guard.

Does anyone know anything about the cast or who this guy is? For all I know, he wears parachute pants and is blue...

If there is anyone out there who has not seen the show or maybe hasn't in a while...go while you can....it's great! :)

I've never seen the show before since I started going to DCA last year.

For the longest time, I thought Beauty and the Beast was the best stage show in Disneyland. Then when they took it out, I was disappointed and nothing was as good (Animazement was a close second for me, but not as good as BatB..and I know it's still shown in DHS).

Then came Aladdin....and I changed my mind. For me, it will be hard to top...I love that show and we go whenever possible since they constantly update it. The basic show is the same, but Genie's dialogue changes with the current events. So from week to week, the show could potentially be slightly different.

The Genie even poked fun at the Taylor Swift/Kanye/Beyonce incident...way funny!

Awesome! Thanks for posting these Doc!
The Genie is the best part of the show, The Character is allowed to do improv and keep going with it unlike the other characters.
This is what makes the show IMHO. Like I mentioned in my first post, he went off on some people who were leaving the theatre early. I loved when Genie caught Aladdin off guard and Aladdin was trying to keep his composure all the while, Genie kept on pushing his buttons trying to make him crack. Hilarious stuff!!!! :)

EDIT: After reading the micechat link, I think the Genie we saw was one of the ones mentioned in the first post. He did the Dr. Phil joke for rule #2 and broke into Getchya Head in the Game...and as mentioned earlier, his jokes were very current (balloon boy, Jon & Kate...etc)
