So it looks like my next surgery is probably going to be in LA, which is good because woohoo I get to go to Disneyland! I want to have a magical adventure. Are there any deals happening at DL that anyone knows about? Their hotels are soooooo expensive! Or what's a good neighbor hotel? Thanks!

I still prefer the hojo over on Harbor. it is within walking distance and depending on the room you can have a view of the park. Plus the prices are WAY more reasonable than the Disney Hotels, I think the last trip out I paid $59 a night for a lower level room. Back in February I paid $109 a night for the top floor of the tower, facing the park.

I have stayed at the Annabella, Portofino Inn, Quality Inn, Alpine Inn, and Hojo and I have to say that the Hojo blows all the others out of the water.

The Annabella's rooms are small and the showers are built for people under 5'6". And now it is way further from the entrance than ever before with the Timon lot being gone.

Quality Inn (around the corner from Hojo) Was basically a Hotel, nothing special about it, plus I had to walk further than the Hojo.

Alpine Inn........well.....you get what you pay for. Small and everything looked like it was built in the late 60's early 70's

Portofino Inn is the only one that could give the Hojo a run for its money. One issue it has now is it is much further from the park entrance. Back when the Timon parking lot was around you could just take the tram, not anymore.

The Fairfield Inn is where my family and I have stayed at a number of times and it can be decently priced and is right across the street. We've also stayed in the Desert Inn, I believe, and one other on that strip. They're not bad and kinda cheap.

I've stayed at the Double Tree, which is down Harbor about a mile. You can walk to Disneyland if you want, but it's easier driving. They have a shuttle too. And if you book it online you can get $89 rates. Really nice hotel compared to ones surrounding Disneyland (except for the convention center ones).

Good Neighbor Hotels are hotels that are (somewhat) in cahoots with Disney. They pay them to be listed with this "privilege" as a 'Disneyland Good Neighbor Hotel'.

We've stayed at Fairfield Inn before and had a good experience. We've heard nothing but great reports about HoJo and will be staying there this December. They're both close to the park. HoJo offers a discount if you have an Entertainment Book card. You can look on their site under their Discussion Board section for more info.

DL resorts are currently having a $400 discount on 4-day packages. It still costs more than the good neighbor hotels, but in my opinion adds to the experience.

Thanks guys! I'll look into those. I really wanted to do one of the resorts, but I'm just having issues parting with all that money... Sigh.

We have only stayed in the Disneyland Hotel when we have gone to DL. We have found that with a good package the rates aren't too bad in comparison. We also like having the early entry and guaranteed admission on busy days. We even spend a little more to be on the concierge level which saves us a ton just on beverages. It is a lot of fun to do the milk and cookies in the concierge lounge during fireworks too. The music is piped directly in and there is no crushing crowds to contend with. It is worth a little more if you can swing it to stay on property. (We aren't rich by any means, but it is worth a little splurge on vacation to live a little)

Best Neighborhood Hotel in my opinion is the Candy Cane Inn. It's literally on the north border of the DL property, well within walking distance. It's quite small and has a nice community / boutique feel. They have a good breakfast and shuttles to the resort. The best thing is that it's pretty dang cheap ($115 for a weekend night!), and I've never been disappointed there. http://www.candycaneinn.net/

That is where my family has always stayed, or if we couldn't get into that one we stayed at the Tropicana, can't beat the location

The Park Sheraton is nice and very clean. We stay there each time. If you are a AAA member the price is usually 100 to 115 on weekends and a bit less on the weekdays. If your an SPG member the rate is a bit better.

Grand Californian is a good hotel, but expensive

Thanks everyone. I ended up going with a Costco Package and I'm staying at the Paradise Pier. So at least now I've got all the perks for staying on property. Yay! In a lot of ways I'm really looking forward to this trip and in others, not so much. But hey, it's Disneyland and I haven't been there since California Adventure opened, so it'll be nice to see.
