DLR ticket price increase

Post by elizabethswann » Jul Fri 31, 2009 6:37 pm

Single-day visitors to Disneyland Resort theme parks will pay $3 more starting Sunday. The theme parks are hiking their prices as they have done at least once a year for the past five years. The new cost for a single-day pass will increase to $72 for adults and $62 for kids.

For at least four years, single-park passes to Disneyland or Disney’s California Adventure have gone up by $3 each year. This time, the price of the annual passes will go up the most — $40 more for the premium pass that allows entrance every day.

$40? That's a bit overboard, don't you think?

I think it is a pretty hefty price increase. I don't recall seeing tickets go up once a year like we have seen the past few years. I bought a Deluxe pass 4 years ago for $219 I believe. Now it is up to $279. I can't believe it.

The reason Annual Passes have gone up so much is due to the issues Disneyland is having. With over 800,000 Annual Pass holders now Disneyland is actually loosing money. It is statistically proven that AP's spend less money at the parks and on Gifts as non-locals coming for 5 days. I have to say that I fall in the realm of spending less even though I live 3,200 miles away. I generally spend less than $50 per day, just depends on where I eat, while the "tourists" spend 100's per day, plus pay more in ticket prices.

bryceran, the Deluxe Pass is actually $289, it went up $20 from $269. Depending on how many times you have gone to the parks in a year this is a minimal price increase. According to my calculations I will have been to the parks for 19 days this year which calculates (on the older price $269) out to be $14.16 per day (I rounded up). On the plan it would cost me $15.21 per day, granted I am not sure if I would be going for THAT many days, but if I did that is what it would cost.

This is all true. It just seems like a lot of inflation over 4 years. I will still get one the next time I go (coming from Utah) because in 2 trips in one year it is still worth it. Just a bummer to add more per year.

I was really hoping that with the economy the way it is they would not raise the prices this year.

We're coming from Vegas, and used to do the same thing. We would go 3 or 4 time a year for extended weekends and it was economical. Unfortunately, we've had to cut back, and the price increase certainly doesn't help. Oh well...Disney's losing out on my money.

On the other hand, I do understand the increase though

Whether to buy a delux annual passport all depends on how many times you go. If you are planning two two day trips. it is pretty much wash a $143 each ticket, or $289 for an Delux Annual passport.

If I don't have an annual passport already, I always buy a 3 day pass, then upgrade on the last day at the park. This allows early entry one day, they a 10% discount on many things once you upgrade.

I never renew my passport once it expires until I go again. this extends the time I can visit and keeps more money in my pocket.

Good call. I am doing the same thing. I bought my 5 day tickets through AAA to get the free parking and the early entry and then on the last day we will upgrade.

We are going 3 full days and 2 partial days so I think that should work out nicely.

Most important thing to remember is to look at the blackout dates for the pass you buy. If you upgrade to early. You may have to pay for a blackout date $45. If you upgrade on a blackout date, they issue you a pass for that day free of charge.

Oh good point. I hadn't thought of that yet. I think the blackouts do end right before we come though...

I generally do the same thing that garyman said. I don't renew, I just buy new on the next trip. I last bought a AP back in Feb. and probably won't buy on until July, that is the next time I go after the AP expires. Why pay for 5 months that I'm not going to use (since I bought it in the beginning of Feb.)

I also only buy the Deluxe, if I am blocked out on a day I will just go up into LA or out to see friends that day. It is a good reason to take a break and get some much needed rest during the trip.

I just automatically assume the price will go up each year. I only go about every other year, so it's been a pretty safe bet.

The Costco Deal for a 4 Day Park Hopper for only $159 is amazing, and a great deal!

Another updated list from Micechat:

Changes in Disneyland Prices, guess which way they went?

Last week, I mentioned the new Stroller prices in this column. On Sunday, Disneyland also raised parking, cars are now $14 per day, and an Parking Annual Pass add-on is now $79. The Premium AP still gets free parking, but it is interesting that now the difference between a Deluxe with Parking and a Premium is once again $61. Did Disney already figure out the Parking price increase when they announced the new AP prices in early August?
