I am so shocked by this. I had no clue they would be removing the mickey on California Screamin. I must have missed this in the plans for the park revamp. Anybody know why they are removing this mickey? Is it just to close to the big mickey they are putting on the old sunwheel?

That's how it's supposed to look after the expansion.

So looking at that concept art it seems as though they are just moving mickey to the wheel and the sun over to California screamin. I guess the sun is getting smaller and Mickey is getting bigger then.

Why in the world would they remove the ears?!?! AUGH! I always thought it was so cool how the roller coaster would go around the inside of the ears. We were hoping to get to DL this year too, I guess I don't get to see the ears. :x

It sounds like it. I don't know how big the Mickey face will be but this is the concept art of it.

Does anyone know the reason for the change?!?! They are just going to leave the roller coaster blank now?! That's just silly! Bring the Mouse back!

In the pic that elizabethswan posted it looks like they will have the sun on the roller coaster and mickey is just moving to the sunwheel. As for the change my best guess is that the roller coaster and the sunwheel are so close that having two giant mickeys there would just be too close together. But that's just my guess.

I think disneylandmom is right. It would look wierd if they kept the mickey on CFS and have the mickey on the mickey's fun wheel

What they're trying to do is make the Pier more "Disney". Since the Sun Wheel is I think more prominent than the Screamin' Mickey Head, they're switching them out. Mickey gets the Wheel and Paradise Pier logo. It's said that the PP logo will light up just like the Mickey Head, and should be really awesome looking.

Make one Minnie! The ears gave that roller coaster aesthetic value.

That's pretty much what they're doing. Initially there was some backlash that DCA didn't have the "Disney magic", having nothing really Disney related there except for A Bugs Land, Disney Animation and the Disney Electrical Parade. Now they're revamping the entire park and adding more things that are Disney related.

Like a gigantic Little Mermaid ride...if that doesn't scream Disney, I don't know what does! It's supposed to be state-of-the-art and absolutely breathtaking. That and Radiator Spring Racers (a Test Track type ride, but better) is what I'm looking forward to the most.
