Autopia

I haven't seen an Autopia thread anywhere but let me be the first to tell you this experience I had. When I was there last month in line, I swear to you, I heard the Peoplemover music playing in the queue. We had to wait a while since they were working on the getting a car off the track so I was on the stairs and I heard the music. I thought I was going crazy but my sharp hearing picked it up and it got me all excited. Could be a spark of hope for the ride's return or just them wanting to put the music there for relieving memories? Who knows. All I know is that it was great to hear the Peoplemover music still playing around.

I love autopia!! This ride doesnt get as much recognition as it deserves. Its such a fun ride and it always brings back great memories of when i was younger and wishing i could drive. This ride is always on the priority list for my wife and i. The whole loading area, the signs, and those videos of the chevron cars all make it worth while for me. I also loved the inclusion of the chevron cars into this ride and think it adds a whole new element to the ride.

Hearing the peoplemover music would just make it that much better...hopefully they're still playing that when i go back this month!

Oh cool! Ya I heard somethings about the Peoplemover coming back but I've not heard much since around 2005 or so. I love autopia although I always seem to get the same car on my license when I go.

Oh really?? Ive actually managed to get several different cars on the licenses ive gotten in the past.

I've gotten all three but my favorite is either Sparky or Dusty. I never cared for Suzy.

I never really like the long lines for Autotpia. Even with the fast passes it was a long wait. I did like trying to see the Nemo ride and the construction that was done. Sad thing is we moved to Virginia just before the Nemo ride opened so it will take an act of God for us to make it back to DL in the future.

I live in Southeastern PA and I am able to make it to DL at least once a year. Of course I don't have to worry about a family so that could be the reason I can get there. I do understand that when you have more than just you it does get more expensive. One of the easiest ways to get out there is to have a Airlines rewards credit card. That way you can save on flights by building up points/miles. Another good idea is to look into time of year, if you can go sometime other than the summer you can save quite a bit of cash. for example the DL5 trip (subsonic radio 5th meet) we will be going in February. This is a dead time of the year for the hotels around the parks, some really good deals out there if you know where to look.

Just a few ideas for helping you with your Disney fix.

autopia helps me to remember what it was like to be a kid. we always thought the yellow cars were the fastest. we loved to bump

the cars in front of us,we also loved to stop and let other people hit us

I truly hope we make it to DL this year, is Autopia the same as the Speedway in WDW?!

I'm not quite sure how the Speedway track is but someone else can vouch for me. All I know is that they've combined both the Fantasyland and Tomorrowland tracks for one big track.

I haven't been to Disneyland since I was 10. Can someone please explain Autopia to me? In WDW the Tomorroland Speedway is just a regular old car tethered to a track. As in, you aren't on a track per se but you can only go so far from one side to the other. Nothing special. We don't get licenses. Not sure what you mean by that but it suonds like VMK. So how is Autopia different than any old car tethered to a track ride?

Autopia has changed throughout the years from when it first opened. There were two different versions of the Autopia; Tomorrowland and the Midget/Junior Autopia in Fantasyland.

In the Tomorrowland version, you weren't tethered to a track, it was basically like bumper bowling. There was no track underneath and you were to drive all throughout the course and if you don't steer the right way you'll bump into the wall instead of the track underneath like how it is now. Autopia back then gave you the actual feel of driving out on the road.

However, the Midget/Junior one was tied down to the track like how it is today. Since younger kids were driving it, they wanted to keep them safe and connected with the track. The Tomorrowland version was aimed for the older kids hence why they had a better feel of driving out on the open road. In 1999, they started to combine the tracks together after the Midget/Junior one closed down and now both tracks have been transformed to the Tomorrowland Autopia. We get little licenses prior to boarding the car and they've been doing it since 2000.

I thought it was nice of the Autopia to leave a memorial for the Midget/Junior Autopia while we drive on the track. It's somewhere in the Carpark.

My 3 year old just loves Autopia. He calls it "Fast-cars", even though to the rest of us they aren't. He loves steering them and I'm sure he believes he is ready to drive Daddy's car from the paring lot when we leave DL.
