Enchanted Tiki Room

Post by annafab » Oct Sun 05, 2008 5:26 pm

Is the Enchanted Tiki Room in Disneyland the original show still? I never experience the original show at when we went to WDW as a kid because my parents thought it was boring (lol) and I wasn't that impressed with the new version in WDW now.

Yup. There's a small change (they took out a song called the Offenbach number, but it wasn't really adding much anyway) but everything else is original.

one little known fact about the Tiki Room - it's the only attraction in Disneyland that was not originally part of Disneyland. It was personally owned by Walt Disney, through WED Enterprises, where as the rest of Disneyland was owned by the Walt Disney Company (previously Walt Disney Productions).

To add to what JS3901 has said, here are some other fun facts about The Enchanted Tiki room.

1) It was the first air conditioned attraction in Disneyland......due to the computers needing cooling, not for the enjoyment of the guests.

2) It is the ONLY attraction that you are allowed to eat and drink in......I still haven't found out the exact reason, but I have several other reasons.

3) 90% of the attraction is original....recently the upgraded the sound system (added a couple of 15" subwoofers along with the rest of the speakers), subtracted the one song, and the seat covers were change twice.....

4) the exterior lighting has been changed over to LED fixtures.....one of the first attraction to get a "green" makeover.

FYI - the Enchanted Tiki Room in DLR is much much better than the WDW version. The Tiki Room is a great example of a ride that never should have been updated!

I'm sure it's way better. I haven't ever heard a good review of the "Under New Management" version but only heard RAVES about the original.

I have only met a few people who enjoy the new updated version. Very few. The original Tiki Room, for me, is timeless.

The Tiki room is my favorite spot, sometimes i'll go and sit through 2 or 3 times in a row if it's been a long day. The Pineapple whips and floats are the best!

I might offend some people, but the reason that I enjoy the Tiki Room still is because I can eat and drink and sit in an air conditioned place and enjoy a show. I like the Under New Management version as much as the original. Well, I like the tiki masks a lot at Disneyland, although they creep me out a little.

I wasn't offended until you said you liked the Under New Management too...... But that's OK, in all honesty I have never seen the Under New Management yet. I kind of refuse to go in on principal.

I have not been to WDW since the change but I refuse upon principal as well. As a matter of fact, when they had DL Tiki down a couple of years ago there was concern that they were changing it to Under New Management too. I am so glad they didn't.

Ya my buddy was one of the heads when the attraction was down. They were replacing a lot of the birds feathers and such. He actually almost fell through the roof of the tiki room, he had a crane from one end over the top to the other end and the crane almost fell in. That would have sucked!

I've never been to the Under New Management version but I really don't care to see it.

It's still the same but it's a shame that the WDW version had to change. I know a lot of people aren't happy with the refurbishment.

I agree with elzabethswann... the WDW version of Tiki room is just plain annoying (as anything with Gilbert Gottfried would be) - and don't even get me started on the disco ball thing - what were they thinking? The DL version of Tiki room has been modified and updated (like the external courtyard stuff) but is pretty much just like it was when it first opened.
