Things You MUST do??

So, when growing up, there were always things we HAD to do to feel like our trip was complete -
Go on EVERY ride at least once, even if you didn't particularly like it
Use EVERY bathroom at least once (I know, I know)
Walking through the castle at night
Get a churro, popcorn, ice cream treat and a fritter.
Eat lunch at the Blue Bayou
Have breakfast at the River Belle
Sit on Main Street in the evening and watch the crowds go by
Go in every shop, just to look

Ahh the mems!
My poor Dad, he always tried to get us to go somewhere else for our summer vacation - 8 kids and 35 years later, he's still outvoted!!

We've only been to Disneyland twice, as we don't live anywhere near there! :mickey: Our must-do to-do list on the second trip (after taking everything in on the first) was something like this:

--See the FoF.
--See Pocahontas over and over and over!
--Ride Indy a zillion times.
--Ride the train all the way around a couple times.
--Eat at what had been Esmeralda's BBQ.

Here are my "MUST do"s:
- Enter through the East Tunnel
- Get a Dole pineapple juice (or a float :))
- Sit somewhere and people watch at least for a little while. Preferably the benches on Main Street next to the silhouette store.
- If we haven’t been in a while, eat lunch at Blue Bayou
- Exit through the West Tunnel

We have as few "MUST DOs" as possible... having "MUST DOs" can make you feel like your vacation was not complete, if you end up not being able to do them all... that being said...

- Dole Whip Float
- Corn Dog
- First ride: Alice in Wonderland
- Have to take the Railroad around at least once
- Dinner at Catal
- TRY to catch fireworks while on either (a) Splash Mountain or (b) Big Thunder Mountain (doesn't always work out)

You are correct about taking the Grand Circle Tour. It's a must.

Honestly, there really is no particular reason why it must be the East Tunnel. I just remember my family always going in the East Tunnel when I was growing up, and it's just become tradition for me. I think we used to go in through that tunnel a lot just by accident, but I think it was also because the old AP entrances always used to be on that side.
My parents actually don't remember going in throught that tunnel (and out the west one), and find it hilarious that I'm so adamant (and correct  ) in my belief that we almost always entered through that side. Now it's a full on stated tradition for my wife and I (and now the rest of my family, although they did make me go through that one by myself on purpose once, as they went through the west one just to spite me). It's just a fun way to get in the mood and one more touch that lets me know I'm heading into the Happiest Place on Earth.

Must Do? That has only started in the last couple of years, but they're growing:

Pirates and Haunted Mansion at least twice.

Thunder Mountain at night.

Posing for a picture on a ride, no matter what.

Riding the train just to see the Primeval Diorama.

Sitting as close and in the middle as possible for Fantasmic.

Aladdin Musical at least once.

Mint Julep.

My "must-do" list has changed considerably since children came into the picture.

My "must-do" list pre-children:

-Get there when it opens
-Big Thunder, Space, Splash-at LEAST twice
-Indy-at LEAST 3-4 times
-Pirates and Haunted Mansion-at least twice
-At least one Fantasyland ride
-Grand circle tour on DRR
-Stay until it closes

My "must-do" list post-children:

-Try and get there at least by noon (anyone with three kids under the age of five knows how hard it is to get anywhere on time)
-Grand circle tour on DRR
-Meet Mickey at his house
-ride the carousel a bazillion times
-ride Dumbo a bazillion times
-Pirates once (maybe twice if none of the kids are too freaked out)
-watch either the parade, fireworks, or Fantasmic!
-leave before the park closes

By looking at my lists it may seem like I don't have as much fun at Disneyland as I did before I had kids. But in actuality, I have just as much fun. It's a fantastic feeling to see how much fun your own children are having at a place that you have come to love dearly. And even though I haven't been on Indy in a couple of years, I still walk by it and fondly dream of the day my daughter will be 46" (117 cm) or taller. At least I'll get to ride it once since she'll probably be too freaked out to go on it a second time.

Wow. I know you love your kids and wouldn't change having had them and all that... but I don't envy you :)

Dude, you have got to do it! I can't imagine a year without going to Disneyland. WDW was fun (we finally did it this year), but it is not Disneyland.
