Matterhorn's New Bobsleds

I heard a news report on a disney podcast (Inside The Magic) that the Matterhorn was getting new bobsleds. Instead of there being 2 people in one seat, every one wil get their own seat. The picture looks like a behind the scenes shot.

This is such a good idea in my opinion being with how bumpy the ride is. This would definitely help out a lot and cant wait to ride it with new the sleds. I also included a couple links for those who would like to read more.

Sounds like a great idea. Unlike Splash where I felt sad to see the old logs go, as I felt being squished together was part of what made the ride great, I think that everyoen felt uncomfortable and squished in the Matterhorn Bobsleds. It'll be intersting to see if that's actually a new car, or just something someone put together. Thanks for the great story and link!

It's a nice idea, but the pic looks like there're only 3 seats per car. I wonder whether that'll increase capacity (because of all the single riders making it 2-to-a-car today) or decrease capacity (by losing the ability to put two couples or a family of 4 together.

I have mixed feelings about this. I think it would be nice if they would make the ride a little smoother. But on the other hand I think it is nice to have the double seat with young children. I don't know if my daughter will ride the ride if she has to sit all alone.

I agree. I will miss the double seating, not so much because of kids (not quite yet) but Matterhorn is the best ride to hold your best girl close while screaming down the mountain side.

I know how hard it was on the legs of the person in the front, knees banging on the front of the car. I think this will make it more comfortable.

Yea...thats definitely something that would be missing from the ride. But then when you get stuck with your friend...you kinda want the ride to end quick..haha!!

I'll be happy if they just put some darn padding on the seats. I suffer from LBM ( low butt mass) and I can barley handle bleachers.

I think there are so many "single" riders that you are sending a lot of the cars with only 2/4 people in them for a max of 8. With these new sleds you are gong to get 6 in every time.

sorry to say, but most rides don't use padding due to a few reasons. wearing out would be a big problem for Disney parks, as well as getting wet from various sources and then developing mold and such...probably best to bring a small pillow or something. maybe one of those hernia donuts...

I never thought of that! Alll those reasons make perfect sense and yet...never thought about that... :?

I guess thats why they get paid the big bucks!

That pic looks very similar to the current WDW Space Mountain seats. Shape of the sled no, but the seats and restraint system looks the same.

6 per train, 3 per sled makes a lot more sense than the old system. Once in a while we would get an over enthusiastic CM and they wanted to cram 4/sled in - not fun.

As for padding, they could do the all-solid rubber pads like a few have, think the Splash Mtn padding. Less wear and tear, etc. so they could pull it off on this one. Who knows what they'll do till we actually get to see them...
