Does anyone else remember this?

I had to spend a while looking it up, because all I remember were the amazing characters and the Gummi Bears boats . This was the most amazing thing at Disneyland for me. I remember being so excited to meet all the characters and ride the new rides (okay, so they were just the boats and fantasyland autopia with standees along the banks, but still amazing)! You'd go around to different booths/areas with this stamp collcetion book, and get stamps from all the characters and if you did you got a prize.

I remember that one time when we went, my parents got my little brother and I these ridiculously awful Rescue Rangers outfits that were mostly brown, but had blue and red accents that we incredibly ugly, but we thought they were the coolest things ever. We wore them to the park every day after we got them.
Hopefully someone else here is around my age and visited the park then, because I imagine that if you weren't this will be completely crazy and uninteresting.

Man I wish I could have seen this when I was a kid. The first time I went was back in 1989 and that was before they started this, the next time I went was 2005. I grew-up on all of these shows and I still love them. In fact I own most of the DVDs that are out now.

You know i totally remember watching all these shows after school every day when i was a kid. The disney afternoon was by far my favorite series of cartoons. Strangely i dont remember seeing that map your showing though. That does look pretty cool and wish i saw that when it came out.

I believe it was a souvenir certificate with a discount coupon, but I am not really sure, sorry

I was not a big Fan of the Afternoon Avenue idea. It blocked the view of Small World with cheap Las Vegasy facades. Disney got into a lot of Glitzy protional events in the 80s that bothered me at the time, because it took away from the already beuatiful scenary in the park. I always felt bad for people who were visiting the park the first time, and instead of seeing the castle at the end of Main Street, all they saw was the Gift Giver Extrodinare in the middle of the central plaza hub. The blast to the past fiasco, the Circus Fantasy, The State Fair event with a ferris Wheel blocking the view of the Main Street station. I am glad after time Disney execs finally realized what Walt Disney realized in 1956 after the Mickey Mouse Club circus flopped. People come to Disneyland, to see Disneyland. That said, I did enjoy the Weekday animated shows as a kid, especailly Duck Tales.

I remember the map! I was sooo stoked to get the stamps. I remember that the beagle boys (from ducktales) were wandering around toontown that day though and scared the bejesus out of me!

I was like 6, I think that's a relevant point to add. Though I still might scream a little as an adult

Having never been to Disneyland I don't remember this, of course, but did they have a Don Karnage suited character wandering around? That would have been so cool.

Wow, that's a blast from the past of all the shows and characters my brother and I had watched. I forgot all about Fat Cat from Rescue Rangers. Haha.

DisneyChris, I completely understand your post, but it's also hilarious because I remember almost all of those promotions and I always think of those as some of the coolest thing that Disneyland did. I need to mention, that like Shinku I was a little kid however. I remember getting to do the Gift Giver Extrodinare and getting an Alice in Wonderland and Dumbo VHS that I still have, and my dad won a GIANT purple stuffed bear at the state fair event that my brother and I grew up with and we could both fit inside of its arms it was so huge. It's interesting that when you're a kid these things are so memorable and over the top impressive, but when you're an adult you can think things through and realize that this might not be what's best for the park. That being said, I still want to bring back the gift giver

I agree with DisneyChris. I was not impressed with the Afternoon Avenue shenanigans at all. Especially the Gummi Bears.

I wasn't into the tv shows, as they were a little too young for me at the time. But I can see how kid and a fan of the tv shows would like it.

Unfortunately, or not, I missed these events. They were a little before my DL time.

Heh, I remember that. I thought it was super rad.

I noticed a little something in the video. watching it shows the Baloo and Fat Cat costumes have the moving mouths, like the newarticulated character heads in the shows at WDW...

Oh my gosh I remember all of this stuff! I had that map and I remember going around and collecting the stamps (though I don't think I filled it)! I thought it was the coolest thing ever! I was on the older end of the age spectrum (about 10 or 12 I think), but I loved the shows. So when we went to Disneyland, I went nuts for the "changes" that were made for it!
