So now I'm hearing Early 06 for the opening of SM - is that what the folks out nearer to DL are hearing too? That is a long time for it to be down! I know I miss it and it sure leaves a hole in Tomorrowland - I wonder just how much is changing that is requiring such a long down time since the initial plans didn't sound like they'd take that long...

not sure but my question is did you hear the new ads for disney something about new atractions what are they are they like buzz's ride and maybe nemos? and it would be cool to go on IASW when it reopens hopefully new anamatronic characters will look more really instead of the one that jerk at every stopping point. and new paint is always a great way to make something old look new again

Well from what I have heard their trying to push it back into late 05, it was mishandled by previous management so the schedule for it got pushed back.

I have seen the new ads - they include clips from Soarin', Lights-Motors-Action, the new DL fireworks, as well as the usual rides. There may have been more new rides but with 1-sec. clips it goes really fast.

And nice to know they are trying to go for late 05, seems like the old management did a good job messing up a lot of things around the park...

Dude, that is some serious down time!!!! Space has been closed since what... Fall '03???? If they push the reopening to '06 that'll be almost 3 years of the ride being closed!!!!

Imagine the lines when it reopens!!!

Interesting comparision stats.

It still shouldn't be taking them 3 years to rebuild it unless some serious mis-management went on [which it sounds like it did]. And I agree - those lines are going to be huge when it reopens!

I hope that space mouatian opens this year becuse I want to ride it this year. What is been changed inside the bulding is the track going to be the same as before? If the track is going to be the same what comany is bulding the track inside the bulding? Is there going to be a lunch on the ride or is it going to use the same three hills without the lunch? I can'nt wate to see the ride open again becuse my parnts have been on it when it had the old track inside the bulding and I never got a change to ride space mouaitn in disneyland only the one in wdw. I whould relly like to ride space moutian in disneyland with the new sound track and theming. what is taking so long to get space mouain finnsed?

As far as I know, the track and layout will be exactly the same. I'm not sure about the "launch" portions of the the lift hills. They could just be using a magnetic lift to make it go faster.

I'm not sure why it's taking so long, it seems as if a summer opening was feasible, but some sites are reporting that Matt Ouimet is desperately trying to get the budget approval to make Space open up faster.

I'm wondering what the new soundtrack will be, I really liked the old one.

I'm sure many on the board have heard, but Space Mountain is now opening on July 15th, 2005.

Anyways, the purpose of this post is to show pictures of the new Space Mountain sign. The photos are courtesy of a person named "Darkbeer."

Thanks DISNEYman.

1) It's nice to have people talking about DLR and not WDW :)
2) Space Mountain is my favorite attraction. It's so nice it'll be opening sooner.
3) Ahh, Darkbeer from www.Mouseplanet.com

I hadn't heard it was even going to reopen till late '05 at best. That is amazing, makes you wonder what happened to speed up the work (or what short cuts they took or special effects they left off...). I like the fiber-optic sign out front, that looks sharp at night.
