Hey, anyone heard about this new ride that is supposed to be coming to California adventure? I was wondering if it was true.

I haven't heard anything about the new ride. I think there is a Woody's Roundup parade/attraction area, if I'm not mistaken. I am pretty excited about the new Toy Story Mania attraction going up in the Pier area, though.

Woody's roundup already exists at DL in the area where the Big Thunder BBQ used to preside. Perhaps you are thinking of Toy Story Mania which is still being built in DCA?

Yes that must be it. Thank you!

I haven't really heard anything about Toy Story Mania, aside from the name and a few pictures. I'm not even sure if it's going to be a dark ride, or more like a themed boardwalk.

I've heard it's going to be a shooting gallery themed attraction like Buzz Lightyear. I guess that would be more like a dark ride. I like Buzz Lightyear, but, wow, another Pixar attraction AND a re-theming of an existing one?

I completely agree. Although I love Buzz Lightyear (it's now one of my go-to rides at the park), I'm not sure how having two very similar rides at the DLR will go over. I still think that a lot of people are wary of visiting DCA for the same price as Disneyland, and the Toy Story Mania attraction could be seen as a great boon for families, I think. But if people do know that it is basically Buzz Lightyear Astroblasters 1.5, I don't think they'll be as intersted. Plus, this is something that people in the Disney community would pick up on (hence the post), and I'm not sure people will be thrilled about it.
Either way, it should still be lots of fun, and I can't wait to see it!

from the looks of the concept pictures (they're building the same thing at MGM in WDW), it's not going to be a laser-based shooting attraction. it's supposed to be more like the carnival games where you shoot water into the clown's mouth...

I heard the Laser thing only. I also hear it's going to be Buzz lightyear 2.5

Its going to be called toy story midway mania and the concept is similar to astro blasters but wont be entirely like that ride. From what I hear it will be a shoot-em game that moves from room to room and you will be playing carnival based games. They will all be themed to 1995 and 1999 pixar films, so theme park visitors will then have to use their individual on-board cannons to take out targets in the Green Army Men's shooting gallery or to pop balloons at Little Bo Peep's water gun race.

As for the vehicles, eight guests at a time will climb aboard for this next generation's dark ride. And in front of each seat on this ride vehicle, there's a cannon that's mounted on a swivel.

The interactive portions of these "Toy Story" -themed games won't actually exist in the physical world. They'll just be projected onto the walls of each of the rooms that your ride vehicle moves through. Using animation that the folks up in Emeryville are creating especially for these "Midway Mania" attractions.

Hopefully this helps a little! :D

Sounds lame, I don't like having 8 people in one car, that ruins the fun for me, the fewer people the more immersive it is. I'm also not a fan of the projected stuff because I prefer actual "physical hardware" rather than "imagined". For example in WDW I'm not a huge fan of the video screen room in the Buzz ride.

I'm a little confused. With eight people will we each be able to interact, or only those in the front? Do you know how the vehicles are shaped?

I hope Disney goes all out, because I'm with the Doctor in loving real mechanics more than the on screen type.

Thanks for the info bvillalta! It does sound interesting, although I too am iffy about the projected screen aspect of it. I think it would be fun to go from carnival game to carnival game though, pretty cool.

I really havent seen the layout of the car yet. Im assuming the eight person ride vehicle will have everybody sitting side by side. It wouldnt make any sense if there was someone sitting in front of you. The actual gun you use will be physical hardware. The ammo will be projected on to the screen and the actual physics of what you are launching will be very life like from what I hear. I dont think they will make this lame..it is Disney after all! Im sure they've thought of all the kinks and worked out most of the bugs. I just think its too early to be passing judgement until we see the actual concept or ride....you know what I mean???

Sounds intriguing to me. Not to be snooping, but can you tell us your source, bvillalta? Just curious.
