I have seen something about the Disney Gallery closing. It is true? Why?

I hope not! I think the Disney Gallery is one of those lesser known "treasures" in NOS. It would be so sad if it were gone. Hopefully this is just a rumor. :mickey:

I heard it was closing because Disney is extending the Year of A Million Dreams and turning it into a guest suite. Not sure.

They have really cool stuff in there, like the old retro attraction posters!

Ack, that'd be too bad. We even bought from there on our second trip. Got a Tony Baxter print of Discoveryland at Disneyland Paris! :|

It would make since since the Cinderella Suiote is so popular at the Magic Kindom at WDW. Just imagine staying in a condo that was supposed to be built for Walt.

That would be really cool! So they're extending the Year of a Million Dreams? When was it supposed to end?

it was supposed to end this December (I think I heard December 16, but could be mistaken). It's now been extended to december 2008.

I heard the same as Lion and am devastated. It was so peaceful and I loved all the art work that I certainly couldn't afford and couldn't see anywhere else. Not only that, but the balcony provided the perfect relaxing spot.

Does this mean the end of the Fantasmic special viewing?

It's closed today. But I've heard it's indefinite and will reopen with a "new guest experience." What that means is unknown. I remember them always saying that about Lincoln, so who knows!

And there's no Fantasmic viewing for a while.

Well I'm glad I finally got to see the gallery after all these years of seeing the entrance, and not going up the stairs. It's not much in the way of attractions, but it's part of Disney history.

The art is really interesting, and yeah, if I were really rich I'd buy some of those paintings. But for now, I'll settle for my vintage monorail poster.

MousePlanet had a good DLR Update Article on this issue:

There's talk of moving all of the paintings, memoribilia, etc to several locations. One might be the Main Street Opear House. They might also expand Disneyana into the 20th Century Music shop and then house everything there.
I think I've gone to the Disney Gallery every time I've visited the park for the past 7 or 8 years. I always head up to check out whatever is new. The courtyard there is always a great place to sit and relax.
My whole family is incredibly sad to see it go, but hopefully it will come back again soon.

Oh it is gone, I was just there this past week and everytime I or my brother walked past it we hung our heads in shame. That was one of my favorite places to go. I would spend hundreds of dollars in there ( back when I had money to spend). My brother and I have so many posters, books, figures, etc. because of that place and now it is closed. So Sad So Very Sad.

This is very true. It was a great place to visit for both AP holders, and people who rarely go. It's a wonderful taking someone up there for the first time, and introducing them to this amazing attraction. Hopefully they'll place it back up sometime in the future, and at the very least relocate the exhibit. At least we still have the Gallery music, thanks to SSR!

Last I heard they are thinking of 2 or 3 other places as to where it will go, at least for now. One was on Mainstreet somewhere, most likely Disneyana will be upgraded to include it. Second Idea was to move it to Down Town Disney, kind of like the one that is down in World. And I can't remember off of the top of my head where or if there was a third place.

I believe that one idea I liked best was to put it in the Plaza Pavallion location. It's not really used that often (at all), and it would be large enough to place everything in. It would also be a great location for easy access for everyone in the park to come in and check out the exhibits. For the immediate time being, they're distributing the merchandise between Disneyana on Main Street, Off the Page at Disney's California Adventure, and World of Disney in Downtown Disney.
Got most of this info from another article on Mouse Planet:
