Return of the Carousel of Progress, sorta.

Post by soccermouse » Oct Wed 18, 2006 2:14 pm

I just got back from Disneyland and I had a chance to talk to a CM while waiting for the fireworks. He said that we can expect a change to Innoventions sometime in the furture. It would likely be a return to some form of the Carousel of Progress on the 1st floor with many Inoventions type exhibits on the 2nd floor.

How long has this CM worked for Disney? You seem to have covered a ton of stuff, How reliable are they? Don't get me wrong I hope to God that they are right on all of what they told you, but I have been told things from CM's that never pan out.

I don't know how long he has been around. My guess is that he was in his early twenties, but he claimed to have talked to Imagineers that were visiting Disneyland. He seemed very knowledgeable. I know how rumors go, but he got me pretty excited.

I guess that I want to believe him because the current"pre-show" for Innoventions is less than crowed-drawing. I think that a Carousel of Progress show would get people into the building in large numbersl at least for a while. And IF they had a sponsor for it (like GE was), it could happen.

Well they definately need to do something with Innoventions. I haven't been to Disneyland since 2000 but even then I was pretty unimpressed with the state of Tomorrowland.

Agreed, we really enjoyed Innoventions at Epcot, but my memory of the Disneyland version was just kind of... pointless... and thus confusing.
No, no... He's got a point.

Innoventions at Epcot is so completely well thought out and a solid part of Future World, where as at DLR it's blah and out of place. If they brought a COP back to the first floor I'll be first in line to go see it!

I seriously hope he was right about this stuff.

I just hope the rumor means they're building it from scratch and not moving the original back to CA... it almost seems at home now in MK. (Plus MK needs as many rides as it can get compared to DL)

Yah, me too. If they left the orignal at MK and the new one at DL, you can have comparisons to the somewhat Walt version to the new Imagineers version.

By the way Cheshire Cat, your signature!!! I know exactly what that's from! SEUSSICAL!!! I was actually in that show for a local theater company. I was the Grinch, but that was only my second show ever and I was only 11. :D :D

I would love if they brought some kind of Carousel of Progress to DL. That would rock. I miss the old one terribly.

Carousel of Progress brought back would be excellent! At the very least, they need to do something to innoventions, as I agree with everyone here. It's very confusing and doesn't really offer anything innovating anymore, as most of things that are housed there you can find free online. The most crowded section when I went this past Saturday was the area that was full of XBOX 360s playing games that were a year old, and that wasn't even full. I can't imagine that Innoventions as it currently exists is a winning attraction for Disneyland. Having Innoventions there is better than having nothing at all (as I remember growing up), but Innoventions is not cutting it either. Bring back CoP, or maybe even do a retro theme area in there with both CoP and Circlevision! You could theme the outside as a 60s or 70s era tomorrowland and tout it similar to "Yesterland". I'm pretty sure that at the very least, you'd get patronage from people seeking nostalgia, and I think that the general public would still be interested in seeing what the future held in the past.

As much as I dont remember this ride with too much detail...im kinda curious to see it again as I have a greater appreciation for it now then when i was a kid. I always wanted to go on space mountain and thunder mountain!

Now that would be something. Much as I mock the CoP it would be fitting to see it home in DL. Bring back the subs, then the PM [get on it already!] and then CoP - you could have a great retro Tomorrowland. The second floor could go back to the home of the future type idea mixed with the more interesting parts of Innoventions [what that would be is beyond me, the DL version isn't exactly my first stop or anything]. Haven't heard about this really eslewhere but if it is legit it would sure signal a turn back to the classics!
